| Bob,
I got the information about the recall from my dealer, ten minuts
before I was heading out to pick up my (long-awaited) Cannondale Delta
V 1000. Seems not only did the stem "break down" in cold weather, but
an O-Ring in the front suspension malfunctioned, causing the shock to
leak. (Didn't know about the bar ends... they're not standard with the
Delta series.
The dealer said Cannondale was projecting about three weeks for
delivery of the replacement parts (One more week to go!!!!)
I did, however, pick up my new road bike - Cannondale R900, with
Ultegra STI. Hope to rid it for the first time later today, or
tomorrow.
Both bikes are compliments of the person(s) who broke into my garage
and walked off with my (less than 9-months-old) Cannondale M700
(black/green chameleon specks-17"-Scott aero bars) and my Schwinn 754,
58 cm/blue with Aero III bars. (Special thanks to the insurance
company which covered the losses... and allowed the (substantial)
upgrades.
Now I'm looking for folks in the Marlboro/Shrewsbury area to ride with
(lunch/after work, etc.) Any DIGITAL groups formed/people interested
in riding???
Looking forward to a great '92 season.

From a M700 => Delta V & a Schwinn => R900. The insurance companies
better get some people who knows about bikes. I hope your insurance
company is not the same as mine.
We had our C-Dale clinc last night and the sale rep indicated that the
O-ring problem on the front suspension has been corrected. The stem on
the other hand was a welding problem. Since nobady else made a stem for
the Delta V headset, C-dale made it themselves. They hired a bunch of
new welders and the stems was their first project. The problem was that
they did not expect that is was a difficult job. But they had some
failures in the field and the problem was that they couldn't detect a
bad stem from a good stem. this is why they recalled every stem.
At the present time, all the welders that is working on the stem had to
be certified and they are presently making new ones. The rep indicated
that the new stems will be in within the next couple of weeks (Do bet
on it! C-dale has a history on delays).
The sales rep also indicated they are running low on the M700. So if
you are looking at one, by now or else wait until September or even
next year.

| Dave,
In each case, the upgrades/accessories equaled the value of the
original bike. (I lost over $2300 in total, so don't go feeling too
badly about the insurance company... it was all legit).
International in Boston finally wrestled the stem and o-ring away from
the rep's car trunk, and I (finally) took possession of the Delta 1000.
It was worth waiting for. Now... if I can figure out how to actually
get air into the front shock (short stem!!!) I can probably start
adjusting the pressures for my (soon to be svelt) body.
Took my first ride with my kids... and thanks to the fact that the bike
took most of the shock, I was actually able to keep up with them for a
change!!!
