| BIKE SHORTS February 1992 Vol.3 No.1
----------- ------------- ----------
The first on-road, off-road century was held by NEMBA memba's
on September 29th, 1991.
This route travelled from the Middlesex Fells to Rockport, MA -
by linking numerous off-road sections with short road sections.
The ride started at the Sheepfold parking lot, and went on through
Breakhart Reservation in Saugus, the Lynn Woods, a powerline ease-
ment through Danvers and Peabody, Beverly Rocks, Manchester Woods,
Ravenswood in Gloucester, and then through Dogtown to Bearskin Neck
in Rockport.
Out of 9 starters, 6 (including 1 woman) completed the entire 100
miles. One intrepid beginner was coaxed onto the train in Rockport.
Survivors completed the trip in complete darkness around 9:00 pm.
The highpoint of the trip though, was the "registration packets"
prepared by Ridemaster Brian McKeller, which included a map with
marked route, power bar, and a change of socks!
