2096.0. "looking for someone to ride with" by TECRUS::FROMM () Mon Sep 30 1991 17:18

I work at Hudson, and I'm interested in finding someone to bike with over the
lunch hour.

I have a mountain bike and, given the choice, would prefer to find some trails
nearby. Considering that it's probably unlikely to find too many trails within
close riding distance (suitable for a short lunchtime ride), I'd certainly be
happy riding on local roads as long as they're not too heavily traveled by cars.

If there's anybody at Hudson that already rides during lunch and wouldn't mind
someone joining them, or someone who's willing to start doing it, please get
in touch with me.

I realize it's already getting a little bit chilly, but I think that there's a
good deal of suitable riding weather left. In fact, I don't even mind riding
in the snow, as long as it's fresh, loose snow. It's pretty impossible to get
any traction on packed snow, although I gather that there are tires designed
for that purpose.

This brings to mind the famous Steinberg cover from the New Yorker
(including a slice of the Hudson R.!) that gives a taxi on Lexington
Ave. roughly the same weight as the entire state of Utah. :-)

It's so true -- when the name "Hudson" crosses the lips of anyone
from Pomona to Peking, it's Eastern Mass. that immediately comes to mind.

there is a natural gas pipe line that goes thru hudson MA that I've riden.
its a decent ride.. up and down and some rocky stuff. I'll try and give
you directions, sorry I don't know any of the street names...

from HLO go out to the lights at RT 85 (99 on your left). take a right
at the lights. take the first right. follow that road straight thru 2
sets of lites really close together where the road crosses main street,
and then thru another light about 3/4 mile further up. about 1/2 to 3/4
mile beyond these lights, watch to your left. there is some new
construction going on. turn in there and get on your bike...

ride by the new houses going up and watch for the breather pipes or
whatever they are sticking up on a trail to your right (starts off with
a steep climb). The pipes are white with a red cap. this trail goes
probably about 5 miles, and then you can cross the road that you come
to and continue for another mile or so where you run into 495 right at
the 117 intersection. you could probably cross 495 via 117 and continue
on, but that's as far as i've gone... have fun
