What is the fork material? If it's steel, you could get it brazed.

If it's aluminum, you could still try and epoxy something. Just
make sure to get down to bare metal, and don't use it for anything
    heavier than fenders.

Why do bike manufacturers sell bikes without eyelets?
Why do people buy bikes without eyelets?

>> What is the fork material? If it's steel, you could get it brazed.

I'm pretty sure it's aluminum (I'll check tonight).

>> Why do bike manufacturers sell bikes without eyelets?

It supposedly is a "racing" mountain bike that you would never consider putting
fenders on & therefore don't need the added "weight" of the eyelets.

>> Why do people buy bikes without eyelets?

I knew this would be asked. I went shopping for a "winter" bike so that I
wouldn't have to use my TREK 2100 once the weather turns bad (in Upstate NY,
that could happen any day now). They were selling TREK 8700s at about
half price ($1675 MLP, $799 my price). The owner was trying to liquidate some
extra inventory and I just couldn't pass it up! I noticed the lack of eyelets
after I got it home.

It's a great bike, composite frame, Sun Tour XC Pro, etc., I just have to figure
out how to use it for it's original intent, hence the question on the fenders.

Thanks for the suggestion on the gluing.

    	Excellent question, thank you.

How do they expect us to mount up our gun racks without 'em?
    	(Sorry, touchy subject)

    	And a cellular phone.

Jim Blackburn needs to design his racks so they hold a 12-volt
motorcycle battery for the cellular equipment.

Trek markets the 8700 as a racing bike. Most carbon fiber/aluminum,
XC Pro equipped bikes are designed as such. I haven't seen too many
fenders at Mtn Bike races, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been or
won't be any. This Sunday we could have used 'em, continuous rain and
therefore lots of mud. But that was part of the fun, I think!

    The Tange fork is Cro-moly.

Cable ties!

The gluing suggestion got me thinking about alternate methods of securing
"things" to other "things". I attached the front fender supports to the fork
last night using cable ties. It appears to pretty sturdy; I hoping to test
drive it in the rain tonight.

For those of you fender-freaks, I saw a new fender (at the trade show) that has
a quick release and attaches on the seat post. Real simple, comes off in an
instant (just pop out the seat post) and doesn't interfere with your rear
brakes, etc. This is a no-brainer (so why didn't I think of it, duh?) and will
be available at Chelmsford Cyclery very soon. Will keep you posted on price,
etc.
