2045.0. "Sore throats -- any other riders experiencing them?" by CIMNET::MJOHNSON (Matt Johnson) Mon Aug 19 1991 12:00

I went out with a friend for a about a 30 mile ride Friday evening,
and for another 30-miler yesterday at about the same time. At dinner,
my riding partner started complaining about a sore throat. This
morning, I woke up with a sore throat as well. Is there something
in the air, or did we just give each other strep?

I've been battling sore throats and swollen glands all summer. It
comes and goes. Had the doctor check me out for strep and mono but
    it came up negative.

Could it be hay fever? One of my symptoms is a rough, swollen
feeling at the back of my throat. If it's been all summer, Tim, then it
    could be your problem.

Hey me too...I have allways had "hay fever" since I can rember and
this past fall my symptoms changed from sneezy wattery eyes to a minor
swollen glands and sinus headache...seems to relived best by a couple
    of days of "Hard" riding.

Perhaps its a result of some new funky stuff drifting our way from
    those high stacks out west...

    Me too

Seems like I have just about have always had it. I have attributed the
soar throat to the hard breathing during racing and some training. Also
gulping water and food like a pig doesnt help.
The swollen glands happen when I need to take a few rest days, as a
mater of fact this is one of the signs I look for when I am real tired.

I also get a mild sore throat from time to time after riding but it never
seems to develope into anything... I thought that it was because of the
temp. or humidity of the air... Goes away after an hour or so...

    just a threory.....

2045.6More than minor irritation: the flu!CIMNET::MJOHNSONMatt JohnsonWed Aug 21 1991 19:404
Well, my riding partner just had some post-ride soreness. But me?
WHAM! I was out yesterday, and I'm here today without my voice,
and with a bottle of aspirin. So my question turned out to be
    spurious....
