	Hi John

I wish you the very best for this fantastic challenge.
I hope it'll be as easy for you as it was for me ........
(the race across Switzerland of course.....) just 365 km.

	have a great one.

	Norbert from Geneva.

P.S. When does the race start ?
Is there some info in this conference about how
you did prepare, and how your support crew will
 	     be organized ?

John, you are one sick, perverted, driven cyclist!

In Northern California, that makes you one of the boys!

Good Luck! Don't forget to take your lap top! We're expecting daily updates!

PS to Norbert: I'll write up some details on crew, training, etc.,
if there's time before the race (which starts July 27th).

    John,

Good luck, and have lots of fun!

Question, John: Do you work at Digital fulltime? If so, when
do you find the time to train?! If it's true (that you work
fulltime too in addition to all those training miles), then I
very much think there should be a special category in RAAM for
those who work fulltime, as you do.

Also, how many cyclists ride in this race?

P.S. Up here in Massachusetts, all we keep hearing about is
Cathy. Let's hear it for John!

2000.10full-time work; sleep suffers :-)SHALOT::ELLISJohn Lee Ellis - assembly requiredTue Jul 16 1991 15:0713

I work full-time at Digital. Most of the big miles are on
the weekend, plus long summer evenings. And I commute to work
(a short distance). But the people here have been flexible
when I've had to arrange some special training for RAAM.

A number of RAAM competitors do in fact have "regular" jobs.
That may even be the norm. It's odd, given all the training
    miles that RAAM requires.

Thanks for the note... (and thanks to Ed for the base note!).

      Good luck John !!

I'd like to say "have fun" but I don't see how you could. ;-)

Ride like the wind, but stay on the road.

Best of luck of luck to both you and your amazing crew!

about half a dozen female, including Cathy Ellis, whom
I wish good luck and a good race!

    Good luck John!

Is there a generic RAAM note or is this the place to ask:

How long is the route? Where does it go?

What's the attrition rate from past years?

What's considered a good time? What are the rules on support and rest
    stops?

Now if you had a BEHEMOTH we could get instantaneous updates!

May the road fall away in front of you
and the wind be at your back
May the rains be elsewhere
except when you need their gentle kiss
May the Pacific propel you
    and the Atlantic beckon
May the mountains part
    at your approach
May the sun and moon
    rise to greet you
Put the hammer down

Raam is like a fanatasy to most I think. I have read about it for
years now and it just seems so unreal. Although I don't know you,
I feel like I do through this notes file. And knowing someone that
is doing this amazing race makes it seem more real. You are the
closest I will ever get to it I think...So thank you for that!
Have a great ride, we'll all be pulling for you!

Thanks for sharring it with us,

keep pedaling! Don't forget your aero seatpost! By the way, it would
be great if you wore your Digital jersey(s) in the race. How about it?

Gee, my jersey on TV... ;-)

What the heck, just the thought of a RAAM rider even thinking of
wearing it makes all the pain of getting them worth while.

Have a great ride john and you too Scott, keep him going.

    Hi,

You've already started the race, but I want you to know my quads
are with you all the way...

I am actually contemplating trying to qualify for RAAM in Sept.
in NY, so I'd love to talk with you when you return.

Best of luck... We'll be thinking of you the entire way-- we'll
    pray for tailwinds...
