1935.0. "Lunenberg, Nova Scotia bike rally?" by ISLNDS::SCHWABE () Tue May 07 1991 13:21

I heard that there is a bike rally scheduled in Lunenberg, Nova
Scotia some time this summer. I can't find the dates listed any
where. I'll be vacation up there this summer and I think this
would be something nice to do while my wife and I are there.

Does anyone have any info an this ride or whom I could contact
    to find out about it??

I'll be there with a group from my bike club (the Seven Hills Wheelmen).

    Rich,

I also belong to the Seven Hills Wheelmen, although I haven't
ridden at all with them for a few years until last Sunday.
I heard about the rally on a club ride down to Woodstock, Ct
    last Sunday.

How many are going from the club. Some guy named George mentioned
it to me (he had a TREK hybrid bike). What is your itinerary?
I'll be taking my car up there with me, but might spend a couple
of days riding at the Rally.

I was on that ride! (Blue Raliegh, up near the front for most of the
    ride.)

I'm uncertain of the current count of people that are going, but I
believe that it is around 15. The current plans are to take the ferry
from Portsmouth, ME to Yarmouth, NS on Saturday, July 27th. We will
then be biking up the West/South coast (i.e. the Bay of Fundy) until we
get to the point where we cross over to Lunenberg. It's about 5 50
mile days; we will have one automobile with us, so it won't be loaded
touring. After the rally we'll be coming back down the other coast,
again about the same number of days and miles per day. I believe that
the plans are to stay at campgrounds along the way, but the actual
campgrounds have not been decided upon yet.

No wonder we really didn't meet. I was spending most of my time
near the back of the pack (beard, red helmet, black Motobecane).

It might be out of your way, but I would recommend a night in
Kejimkujik national park. Lots of wildlife, hot showers. From what
I remember it was a very gradual climb to the park when approaching
from the south. If coming from the north (Annapolis Royal) there
will be a fairly sharp climb near the coast.

Nova scotia is a great place, this will be my 4th time up there.
