1894.0. "Campy Ypsilon rims" by BCSE::KLASMAN (ALL-IN-1 DESKtop for PCs. dtn 381-0731) Thu Apr 04 1991 00:35

Anybody have any experience with Campy Ypsilon Aero rims? Colorado Cyclist
has these rims with Shimano 105 SC 32-hole hubs and DT spokes, 14/15 rear,
15/16 front, on sale for $119. Seems like a good price and I need a new set
of wheels (just had one of my 5 year old MA-40's rims break).

I liked the MA-40s... were pretty bombproof. I think 5 years and probably
somewhere around 12k miles was pretty good. Are the Ypsilon rims as tough?

    Mavic guarantees their rims. Take it to any shop and they should give
    you a new rim. I also had one shop rebuild the wheel and told me that
    Mavic paid for the labor.

1894.2Avoid anodized rimsULTRA::WITTENBERGUphill, Into the WindThu Apr 04 1991 10:369
    Jobst Brandt (author of "The Bicycle Wheel") feels very stronly
    that you should avoid anodized rims. He claims to have seen
    several new sorts of failures now that people are using them. I've
    heard similar reports from other sources.

    So, my advice is to stick with an unanodized rim, and the MA-40
    you were using sounds like a fine choice.

1894.3Thanks for the warranty tipBCSE::KLASMANALL-IN-1 DESKtop for PCs. dtn 381-0731Thu Apr 04 1991 10:436
I'll have to check out the warranty situation. I'd assumed that the rim was old
enough to have outlived any warranty. That sure will save me a lot of money!

re .-1 The MA-40 is a hard anodized rim.

    I have never used the Campy rims that you mentioned. I am not saying
    they are garbage but they are not Campy's finest. They are one of the
    lowest priced rims. From what I remember the wheels are easily built
    by machine.  Low cost wheels.
