1886.0. "Triathlon-Training in South of France ?" by MVSX00::MVSX04::GISLER (TRI = action for real athletes) Thu Mar 21 1991 12:40

	Hi there:

I would like to spend one week down on the Cote d'Azur (not a big
city) to do a specific triathlon training to prepare the season.

	Therefore I'll need
	- a pool for swimm sessions
	- secondary roads for rides and
	- small pedestrian paths for running
preferably all that stuff quite close together.

Does anyone know hotels, not to expensive, in that region,
maybe even close to the sea.

	All information is highly appreciated.
	Thanks.
	Norbert

Have you checked the Valbonne notes file. I forget what node it's on,
but it would be a good source of information.

1886.2Are you sure the Cote d'Azur is it?IDEFIX::HEMMINGSLanterne RougeFri Mar 22 1991 05:4422
What you are looking for sounds like a place called Utopia ;>)

The Cote is in general, crowded and pretty expensive, you might
be better off looking in the Var if you are hooked on the South, or even in the
Vaucluse. We stopped in a little place called Joucas near Apt with several
hotels, each with a swimming pool, good although very hard roads nearby, and
lots of Garrigue where you could run by yourself. Syndicat d'Initiative at Apt
is probably a good place to write for details (Office Tourisme, Place Bouquerie,
84400 APT).

But if the Cote is really your bag, then I would look for the same in
the arriere-pays, Grasse, Tourettes area. There is a place near me in Pont du
Loup, called La Reserve which could be suitable. I've eaten there once but
never stayed - it's sort of faded S of F, Noel Coward style, has its own pool.
The roads are ideal, except its not easy anywhere, and there are good places
where you could run. I'm not sure whether or not you need them all in the same
place exactly - ie; 50 lengths of the pool, out on the velo, and then thrash off
on foot. You would most likely need to take the car for 5km to find a "nice"
place to run.

Call me on 828-6183, or drop a line to John (VISA::)WILSON who used to
be a keen tri-athlete (until he saw the light)..... ;>)

    Or Antibes:

    	- Olympic size Swimming pool (outdoor) and indoor medium-sized
    	  pool
    	- Along the coast for running
    	- 5km back from Antibes there's lots of reasonable & hard (going
          futher back) riding.
Small hotels in Antibes at this time of year shouldn't be too
    outrageous.
As Robin said, John Wilson (828-5631) is probably the best informed
(and lives in Antibes near the swimming pool...).

I am a member of the Antibes Triathlon Club here. Antibes is good for
training as the pool is Olympic size and there are running paths and
roads (hilly and flat). You can also swim-train in the sea most of the
time. There is a very good bike shop as well.

However as Robin points out there is almost no such thing as a cheap
hotel. I can have a look in a guide book, but I don't know personally
    of any.

I will be glad to give you any specific information I can when you
    come.

    Regards

    John

	Hi everybody

thanks for all the useful information and the propositions.

	I just received the confirmation

		a) from my manager
		b) from the swiss triathlon federation

that it is o.k. for the week from 27th April to 4th May for
	a training camp in Tuscany/Italy.

It seems to be a well organized camp: pool at the hotel, running
ways around it, good streets for cycling, trainers a.s.o.
So I am looking forward to going there.

Thanks again for your help and best regards.
