1860.0. "Santa Clara bike shops?" by VOGON::REEVE (Quid custodiet ipsos custodes?) Thu Feb 28 1991 15:28

I'll be in Santa Clara, CA. for two weeks from 10 to the 23 of March. I would
like to know if anyone has any recommendations for bke shops in that area. I
am particularly interested in obtaining something like a Cannondale or
Specialized mountain bike. That way, I could have a couple of weeks use of it
before bringing it back to England with me.

Any suggestions, recommendations or pointers are welcome. I also expect to be
picking up some other bits and pieces, like a Vistalite and other exotic
items which seem to not be easily obtainable in the U.K.

Thanks,
Tim

Try checking through 1835.* which I seem to remember has some
suggestions for bike shops. Sorry I cannot verify since the notes link
to ranger is just a bit slow right now...

    Hey, Tim-

Glad to see you're going to finally make it to the West Coast. Don't
know about Santa Clara, but there is a Cannondale dealer in Mountain
View less than 5 minutes from the ISV facility (UCS). They're
Pacific Bicycles on Grant (415)961-9142. Don't know what Cannondale
stuff is selling like these days, but you may want to invest in a
transatlantic call and see if they might hold one for you, if the
bikes are selling out like they were a year ago.

Why not stop off in the Rockies on the way home?

I've heard good things about Shaw's in Santa Clara. Also try Bicycle
Outfitter in Los Altos and Spectrum in Sunnyvale. They're close to
Santa Clara and I've had good experiences with them.

	Try

	1. Shaws in Santa Clara 408-246-7881 (talk to Terry Shaw or
John Elgart)

	2. Spectrum Bicycles in Sunnyvale 408-737-7333

You may also want to go down to Los Gatos. There is a shop on
University Avenue that is heavily into mt. biking. Its the
headquarters for ROMP, and they will be able to help you on the local
trail riding.

If you want a personal tour guide, you can call Mike "Bat"
Buchanan. He knows of some great trails outside of Cupertino and
Saratoga....single track...redwood forests...good verticles...etc.
408-257-4676

	Good Luck.
