1851.0. "Mid-range racing bikes in France?" by RUTILE::STIMPSON (EIC Ferney-Voltaire) Thu Feb 21 1991 10:54

I have a budget of up to 4000FF to spend on a velo de cours / racing
bike. The reason I, a married man with two young children, suddenly
have such a vast sum to spend on myself, is my upcoming 40th birthday
    (September).

I want Shimano Index shifting and a good stiff frame but what will my
money get me that is available in France? And what shops will provide a
good range? I'm based in Ferney Voltaire within reach of Chambery,
Grenoble, Annecy and Geneva (though I'd rather spend the money in
    France).

Thanks in advance for your help!

I guess you are the man Rod was talking about, I've sent him a few ideas plus
some catalogues via snailmail. If not, then I suggest you contact him.

regards, Robin

PS All I got when I was 40 was a packet of pills which are supposed fortify you!

    re .0

Check out Decathlon and Spao. Both have (had?) bikes in that range.
However beware when buying from a shop which isnt a bike shop. In
particuklar I would rebuild any bike I got from these people back from
    scratch

Well it seems that those pills work well Robin, judging by the way you
    spin up those hills...
