1784.0. "My bike or my wife.. that is the question" by EICMFG::BINGER () Thu Nov 22 1990 12:03

A recent article in the Bycicle said that bike riding was bad for your
sex life. This was the May issue. the article mentioned bruising and
damage to to the blood vesels which make sex possible.
I have recently started riding and have so far seen no adverse effects,
the article considered over 100+ miles per week as the threshold.

Question. Is bike or sx really such a clear cut choice or are we seeing
      some magazine hype.

1784.2the knees are in more danger...SHALOT::ELLISJohn Lee Ellis - assembly requiredFri Nov 23 1990 13:1014

The article had a germ of fact amidst the hype. This condition
seems to affect a small minority of cyclists some of the time.
Highly influenced (and thus correctable) by incorrect saddle
    position, riding posture, etc.

The article was overblown - one case complained of this condition
after some "ultra-endurance" effort of a couple dozen miles' riding.
    See above paragraph.

I'm only being serious here because .0 sounded concerned.
.1 is really the best reply to that article. :-)

Unfortunately, riding 100+ miles a week has the opposite affect on women :-).

Why didnt I se the answer.. My wife gets the bike and I get the car
      back.
I knew there was a reason why I should only ride 99miles per week.

Well, I reckon it's unfortunate for both man and woman if he has the problem
stated in .0 and she has the opposite of that particular problem... :-).

I think it all depends on the rider, the machinery and the relevant
equipment. As far as I'm cioincerned 3 to 400 / weeek don't make any
    undesirable side-effect.
