1739.0. "What a giant at730 worth?" by GSRC::MISKOWITCH () Tue Sep 11 1990 20:34

    Hello,

    	I'm going to look at a mountain bike on friday. It's a Giant
    AT730. If I like the bicycle I want to bid on it, it's a sealed bid
    auction at an insurance company. Does anyone have any idea what it's worth?
    Any other comments?

    		Thanks

    	If it's in "like new" condition/second hand...the AT730 is worth about
    	a $350.- $400. bid.

    Of course it's only worth that much if it fits you. Otherwise
    only bid if you plan to resell it.

    Since it is an insurance company auction, I expect that you
    might get away with a much smaller bid. There will probably
    not be much knowledgable competition for a bicycle.

1739.3Why does the insurance company have it?NOVA::FISHERstill dis-tneiro-edWed Sep 12 1990 14:267
    If it's an insurance auction, isn't it likely that the bike was
    a collision result and "bought" by the insurance company from
    the victim? It might only have salvage value. I bought
    back my own bike for salvage value once. The parts were
    worth $200 to me. :-)

1739.4It was in poor shape.GSRC::MISKOWITCHMon Sep 17 1990 18:067
    Thanks for your help. I decided not to bid on the bicycle, it is in
    sorry shape. Two badly damaged rims, bent rear derailer, bent crank,
    and a badly bent fork. I was hoping to find on to ride, not one to use
    the parts from.
