1705.0. "HOLLIS, NH citizens race info wanted" by THOM::LANGLOIS (Data Networks) Thu Aug 16 1990 17:26

Anyone have information regarding the Hollis, New Hampshire road race?
It was held in late September last year and I was wondering if they're
going to have it this year again.

    						Thanks...

I've seen the term "citizens race" before, but am not certain what it
means. Is the race only open to residents of Hollis? Mass.? USA? Any
    clarification would be appreciated.

A "citizen" racer is a person who is not licensed by
the United States Cycling Federation (USCF). USCF riders
are licensed as Category I, II, III, or IV. CAT I is the
highest, CAT IV is the lowest.

1705.6FIRST HOLLIS REPORT...WMOIS::C_GIROUARDMon Oct 01 1990 17:0231
First update on the Hollis extravaganza (looks like). I did finally
get to meet Jim Pammer though. BTW Jim, can you get your hands on the
30-39 year old results?? Do you remember how many people were in that
    age group??

Anyway, absolutely gorgeous day! Extremely well run and what a finish!
You're going down a slight grade anyway. I didn't look at my computer,
but I'll bet it was between 35 and 40 mph. Great loop of approx. 2
12 1/2 milers. One monster hill on the back, but it didn't shave off
as much of the lead pack as it did last year (or as much as I would've
hoped for this year). As usual, the fair amount of squirrels were
present too. Yellow line violators galore. Most of them (I watched
them closely) got dropped on that hill on the first lap - that'll
    teach 'em.

I ended up in 7th. Couldn't quite get up in front prior to the sprint.
The sprint really started to shape up about 200yds from the finish
line. A pretty good distance. I gained about seven or eight places
during that time. I think the lead pack was about 15-20 strong.

I like the way they provide a little ceremony there too. They don't
even do that at the Tour De Lowell. Nice medals too! Much nicer than
the TdL's. Plus PB&J sandwiches, fruit, apple cider, apples and bannas.
Very nice indeed. I am looking forward to next year.

I would like to see them add one more loop. That'd be nice. It'd add
up to about 37 miles. I would make the race a little different.

     See Ya,

            Chip

Wouldn't ya know. I was sitting at a light (in Nashua)
Saturday morning when a bunch of cars with bikes on top
went by. I said, "Must be some racing in Hollis" (I was
on 130 near the Nashua Mall).

'Course, Saturday was our day at Canobie Lake, so I couldn't
    	go anyway.

As CHip mentioned, at least the weather was gorgeous.

    Chipper,

Give Chet Mitchell a call at home. I haven't got the number handy, but
if anyone would have the results, it would be him.

    Chet lives in Hollis.

    Great job!

The Hollis race will be held on Saturday, 28-September this year.
    Starting time is 10 am.
Looks like they've changed the course as it starts at Hollis High
School (registration at 8 am at Monument Square where it's always been)
and it's 30 miles this year for the citizen's race. Also new this
year is a 52 mile CAT III race and a 41 mile CAT IV race. Entry form says
all races will use the USCF District 13 Championship course. Anyone know
what that is (gee, maybe they'll cut out those *%&$#! hills on the
backside of the original course)? :^)

Contact Chet or Cathy Mitchell at (603)465-7441 for information.
