1663.0. "California: Cycling Paradise!" by WCSM::MANDILE () Wed Jul 25 1990 06:40

After riding several thousand miles in the northeast on mountain/
and road bikes, between LI New York, New York City, Massachusetts,
and all over Vermont I thought I'd seen it all.

Then, I get transferred to the Cupertino plant, in California,
and I can honestly say I've found cycling paradise.
Almost every road around here has a 4-foot wide bike lane,
no more battling drivers for right of way! Sacremento, has
    a bike path 35+ miles long :-)

I read numerous articles back east of how mountain bikes were
being banned from most mountain trails in the west. The truth
is (at least in northern Calif.) There are trails where you
cant ride, but there are still tons available for mountain biking.

Plus your talking perfect weather for cycling, in the San Jose
area its usu. in the 70's, and the only time it isnt sunny is at nite!
When I rode in Sacremento it was quite a bit hotter, 100+ degrees,
but it is so dry here, I had no problem riding 50+ miles a day.
As long as you dont mind drinking warm water (hey its still wet)!

I guess I'm truly overwhelmed by this area, and any cyclist coming
to California, even for a funeral, I suggest bringing your bike,
you may not want to leave!!

    Dazed in Paradise,

    Albert
