1659.0. "Shogun opinions?" by CRBOSS::BEFUMO (Between nothingness and eternity) Tue Jul 24 1990 12:18

    Anyone know anything about Shogun road bikes, particularly the Katana
    model? Is $225.00 a good price for a brand new "last year's model",
    with full gurantee, etc? I understand the list price is around
    $475.00.  Thanks.

1659.1Sounds like a good deal to me...BAGELS::GOTANTASTue Jul 24 1990 15:275
    A friend of mine was looking at the Katana last year...I believe that
    the price was $375-$400. I'd say that if you can get one for $225 with
    full warantee, you're getting a good deal. Just make sure that the bike
    fits you properly and that the shop will service it "with a smile".

    I got one for my son. I think for the price it was a deal! I just
    wish one had been available when I bought my wife's bike as it
    would have saved me $250.

    I did test ride my son's bike and it was very smooth. I did not
    have a chance to put it through any real demanding situations, but
    I feel that it is WELL worth the money.

    It is worth the $225 just for the Group and the wheels, sort of
    a free frame.

1659.3Sounds good, thanks.CRBOSS::BEFUMOBetween nothingness and eternityTue Jul 24 1990 19:303
    Thanks - it seemes like such a good deal that I'm going to grab one for
    my wife and one for myself. The fellow happens to have our exact sizes
    in stock, too.

    Any opinions of the Katana frames? The one I have says Tange (either
    Infinity or Prestige, I'll have to check) double butted on it - is
    this a positive indication? indifferent? Is this a frame that might
    be worth eventually putting better components on?

TANGE INFINITY is low end tubing, seamed I think. Soft and heavy. TANGE PRESTIGE
is very high end, wonderful stuff. Stiff and light. You probably won't find
PRESTIGE on a bike that's < $1000.

    I checked last night & it's infinity - oh well. I thought that
    double-butted tubing was never seamed?
