I think that the Gregster is amazing --- the greatest rider to
come out of the US. I'm not sure I would say that he is the
greatest rider the US has ever "produced", since most of his
tremendous worldwide success has come as a result of his own
personal sacrifice and expense --- including LEAVING the US to go
to Europe where the REAL (tm) RACING is. And most of the money
he has received as a professional has come from outside of the
US.
As far as "representing our country", it is quite true that he is
unquestionably "American" and a great spokesman, but he is the
lead rider on the Z Team, which is FRENCH. His job is to be
successful so that the Z Team enjoys visibility, which in Europe
means increased sales of their product (children's clothing).
I wonder if Kathy and Greg get free "Z" clothes for the kids?
