1620.0. "The "Schwinn"/Monty Biframe" by SX4GTO::BERNARD (Dave from Cleveland) Tue Jul 03 1990 17:40

Sorry if this topic has come up, I couldn't find it.

Has anyone looked at a Biframe? It seems that they're made by a
company in New England called Montague or something, and distributed
    by Schwinn.

Their claim to fame is that they are an ATB, but the frame folds.
That is, you can fold it into a package that, including wheels
and bars, measures 3'x3'x1'. Yet, it is supposedly a full-sized
off road bike. Easy to throw into your car, or closet, or an
    airliner.

I glanced at them at a local bike shop- they seem to retail around
$400 or $500. I just phoned the manufacturer for a brochure.

Anyone see this thing? Is it for real?

Montague folding bike frames have been around for at least
    three years.

I haven't ridden one, but I imagine that the ride is spectacular
in comparison to other folding bikes.

It seems to me that Boston Cops are riding foldable
Schwinns. I remember seeing them fold it up to fit in the
         trunk of the cruisers.

         If it works for them.....

Yep, I just read the article in the latest Bicycling, and it confirms
that Boston bike police ride the Montague-Schwinns. Now, this may be
a sort of testimonial to the quality of this bike, but then you read
how the police department received them as a sort of donation from
Montague, and you kind of wonder.

Any other experiences, or knowledge of this bike?

Does anyone know of a Southern New Hampshire dealer who
    carries these?

    Thanks.

There's a Schwinn dealer in Nashua. The shop is
called Larry's. The last phone number I have is
    	(603) 883-8521.

Try Dave at Nault's in Manchester, N.H.
He's a Schwinn dealer also. Dave does
pretty good by the GSW people he deals
    	with.

The first Schwinn dealer I stopped at was selling the Biframe
    at list price -- $419.

I checked Nault's in Manchester, and they sell them regularly
for $399. They also have some 'leftover' 1990 models that
    are $50 less.

In case anyone else is interested...
