1409.0. "DELTA BRAKE QUESTION - HELP!" by WMOIS::C_GIROUARD () Fri Jan 12 1990 14:48

     I got this little piece of hardware with my Delta Brakeset
    (thank you SO) and don't even have a clue what it's for.

     It's shaped like a small "L" bracket (1" long with the bend)
    and has a hole at end. Help, Please....

     I'd like to install these this weekend. It looks simple enough
    but I'm defintely bothered by this little piece of steel. Is
    Campy yankin' me or what?

     I forgot to mention that NASHBAR was the source and naturally
    Campy didn't have an instruction booklet in the box.

    When you find out, report it here. There is a small hex key that you
    can access through the front of each brake lever, and after six months,
    I STILL don't know what the adjustment's supposed to accomplish. It
    doesn't seem to me like it does anything!

1409.4THE ENVELOPE PLEASE...WMOIS::C_GIROUARDMon Jan 15 1990 13:208
     Just talked with Campy and here's the scoop. It's called the
    seat binder cable holder for the brake cable. There is only
    one for the rear brake and (in some cases) maybe required to
    properly position the cable to maintain the correct parallel
    alignment of the rear brake. Since the front cable is generally
    a vertical application, there is no need.

1409.5OIL OR GREASE?WMOIS::C_GIROUARDMon Jan 22 1990 10:5813
     Here's another one; Should I be using grease or oil on the cam/
    lever workings inside of the brake itself?

     My guess is that grease would be better, but I'd really have to take
    the brake apart to really do the job right. I could oil the moving
    parts easily with the small tube that generally accompanies cycling
    oil.

     What have you DELTA owners used??

       Thanks,

1409.6Nothing, so far. (8 months)CESARE::JOHNSONMatt Johnson, DTN 871-7473Mon Jan 22 1990 14:524
You still haven't let us know what the two tiny hex bolts (accessible from
the front of the brakehandles) are for....

1409.7IT'S OIL vs. GREASE...WMOIS::C_GIROUARDMon Jan 22 1990 14:579
    Regarding the tiny hex bolts... I just finished talking with Campy.
    I guess I should've read this note first. They say oil on the cams/
    levers. Just a drop though and now and then.

    Maybe I will call 'em this afternoon and try and get a response. The
    little openings also have +'s & -'s (or are they little arrows). If
    anyone has a clue, just insert here....

1409.8'Feel' adjustment???MAYDAY::HEMMINGSLanterne RougeTue Jan 23 1990 05:517
I seem to remember there was some blurb about being able to adjust the force
required at the lever to your own personal liking....

Could this be the answer? + for more force, - for less....

1409.9GOT IT!!WMOIS::C_GIROUARDThu Jan 25 1990 14:4111
     I just got through speaking with Campy (again). The little allen
    bolts in the brake levels are a fine tuning mechanism that changes
    the "feeling of brake pull". But I was told it is a micro-adjustment.
    Don't look for major changes. They'd be more like nuances.

     The adjustment actually controls the amount of cable travel when the
    levers are applied.

     Learn somethin' new everyday (almost).

1409.10Did instructions accompany the brakes?DECWET::BINGHAMJohnThu Jan 25 1990 19:393
    The Campagnolo products I have purchased had installation and
    adjustment instructions that were good. Did the delta brakes not
    have them or were they not complete?
1409.11My custom bike didn't come with an owner's manualCESARE::JOHNSONMatt Johnson, DTN 871-7473Thu Jan 25 1990 22:553

1409.12YES & NO...WMOIS::C_GIROUARDFri Jan 26 1990 11:576
     Mine were complete, but no instruction booklet which was wierd because
    every other C Record or Chorus component I've ever purchased always
    came with instructions. Sketchy at best, but at least they're were
    illustrations.

    Hey Paul, where ya been? I attached the front one yesterday. The
    pull is unbelievable. Smooth, controlled. Maybe it's a head thing
    but I really like 'em. I'm sure I'll have to go through "road"
    adjustment. Thank You Santa....
