1383.0. "HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS..." by WMOIS::C_GIROUARD () Fri Dec 15 1989 15:06

I noticed a "Here comes Santa Claus..." topic in the FIREARMS NOTE
to discuss know, potential or wish-list items for Christmas. Anyone
    game?

Mrs. Santa has told me to go and buy my own present, so I'm pretty sure that
the batbike will be sporting a new pair or Modolo bars for my Christmas
afternoon ride.
1383.2Is there a $anta?MCIS2::DELORIEACommon sense isn'tFri Dec 15 1989 16:158
Nothing much just a new Giro helmet cover (mine has grease all over it)
and a coffee mug with a peloton scene on it. These things I bought to put into
my stocking myself cause my wife will not put up with any more bicycling stuff.
But I really want a new pair of shimano cleats (43 white)and a set of light
wheight clincher wheel set (Dura-Ace hubs, Mavic O4CD rims and DT 2X)
and a Red Rider BB Gun....

Hey, Tom. If you'd quit greasin' that BB with your
helmet cover, you wouldn't have to buy a new one.

Lots of Vittoria CXs and CGs; well aged and not ridden on. Even
better would be less work interference with my cycling time. When
    is daylight savings anyway?

I told you what I thought I'd get (Modolo bars, although now I can't
find the cheap ones in my size) but what I really want is that triple
for my racing bike. Boy what abuse I've taken for that one!

Both my rides this past weekend took me over Hick Rd. (the tough part
is about 1 mile of 15%) and I'm more convinced than ever I'm not crazy!
At one real steep part I glanced down at the cyclometer and I was going
4.0 MPH, now that's good balance!

But it's expensive, so John WLDWST::Pollard, unless I hit the lottery
you'll have to buy a new set of Dura-Ace cranks.
1383.10an aero seatpost, of course!IAMOK::WESTERMon Dec 18 1989 20:556
Santa, I've been asking for a while so I hope you'll deliver. Since
the long rumored aero kickstand is not yet available, please bring me a
Campy aero seat post? If not, we'll have to gather the folks from the
Firearms conference and pay you a visit :-)!!

I'm lookin' at C RECORD stuff; Crankset/BB, Delta brakeset (I'm
pretty sure Santa's cough up at least these. Some tools and
maybe the derailleurs (front & back)

1383.12Just a few items....DRFUSO::SHROYERWed Dec 20 1989 13:2012
	I would like the following:

A pair of campy strada, 32 spoke record hubs (formally know as C
record), a work stand, a new pair of thighs and lungs and a full time
domestique. And if its not too much, maybe santa could throw in one of those
new Campy C Record aero kickstands, mentioned somewhere in this note.

And while I'm at it, I wish John WLDWST::Pollard would get his new
Dura-Ace crank set.

	Happy Holidays

Santa came through in a BIG way. Actually, my SO was berry, berry
good to me. I did up this turbo-list and shee almost covered every
item. Here's what was under the tree (I would've never gone out and
    shot this stuff myself):

     C-RECORD CRANKSET & BB
     C-RECORD DERAILLEURS (FRONT AND REAR)
     C-RECORD HEADSET
     DELTA BRAKESET
     AERO II CLIP-ONS
     A BUNCH OF TOOLS
     BULLEYE PULLEY WHEELS

Blew me away big time when I kept opening up those pretty white CAMPY
     boxes.

THANK YOU -- THANK YOU -- THANK YOU -- THANK YOU -- THANK YOU !!!!!!!

Oh yeah, next year maybe a Gregg LeMond frame, or maybe a Pinarello,
or maybe a Colagno, or maybe....

And the winner in the "It's Never Too Early to Start Planning for Next
    Christmas" category is...

From the spring Hammacher Schlemmer catalog:

"TOUR DE FRANCE WINNING RACER. This aerodynamic time trial bicycle is
the same model that won the Tour de France, in 1989. Custom-built to
your specifications by Bottechia of Italy, it provides a measureable
aerodynamic advantage with its 8 degree top tube slope and
26-inch-diameter front wheel. Its unique aero handlebars (look like
normal aero bars to me... ed.), which keep your elbows and hands in
front of your body, and a carbon composite disc rear wheel (Mavic
Comete... ed.) further reduce wind drag. Frame is constructed of
sturdy Columbus "Air" tubing. Twelve-speed gearing and Mavic
components are standard. ... Weight: 23 lbs."
    ............................................................$12,000

There is an 800-number to call for details.

The price seemed outrageous until I looked at the bike in the next
column. It's a "Classic English Garden Bicycle", which looks like
something that they got out of someone's garage, except that they're
charging $595. Well, it does have goldlined mudflaps.

That certainly IS an outrageous price! What would that bike cost
through a bike shop - $3000? Also, the whole thing brings to mind a
vision of some wealthy ignoramus wobbling along at 10mph in the 54x12
    - that would be a sight for sore eyes, indeed.

What in God's name is a "garden bicycle"? I've never heard of it, and I
    only live here.
