1319.0. "Specialized Rock Hopper" by TYFYS::DAVIDSON (Michael Davidson) Mon Sep 25 1989 21:19

Just cross checking prices. What does a Specialized Rock Hopper run
in the northeast? I am looking at a '89 Rock Hopper with Shimano SIS,
Mountain LX, 21 gears with Hyperglyde. The Rock Hopper has the same
frame as the Stump Jumper, the components are all different.

    Cost $495.

1319.3Year end sale awhile back...STAR::BARTHWed Sep 27 1989 19:345
That's about right. I think I found it on sale a month or so ago
for about $479ish at Gamache's in Nashua. He's trying to get rid
of his mid to high end bikes before winter sets in.

Don't know anything about Rock Hoppers, but Spokes 'n' Slopes in
Peterborough NH appeared to have an '88 Specialized Rock Hopper for sale
for $400 (pretty sure). Have no clue as to components, size,.........
you might want to call them to get more info if this seems like a good
deal; judging from the previous prices mentioned it might be......

Apoplexies in advance if this turns out to be REAL inaccurate! :-)

Oops. Sorry about that. I meant Goodale's in Nashua. Too many
    places that start with "G"...

This sounds about right, that bike is a year old, probably has 18 gears
and no hyperglyde. This years model, '89, has 21 gears and hyperglyde
and it is possible that next years model may have 24 gears!

Well it sounds like it doesn't matter whether you are in the east or
west, the Rock Hopper is around $500, give or take $25.

At the risk of looking (sounding/acting) like an idiot,
and leading us on a tangent, what exactly is Hyperglide?
I've seen and heard it mentioned before, but I'm ignorant
    	about what it is.

1319.9Rock Hopper 'Upgrade'EVTAI1::REMIGEREAUTue Oct 03 1989 07:3814
I have a Specialized Rock Hopper model 88.
I would like to 'upgrade' transmission & brakes from Shimano Mountain
LX to Shimano Deore XT II.

Do you believe that the investment is reasonnable for this kind
    of bike frame?
FYI, some French prices for Specialized bikes in France:
    	Rock Hopper Comp: $850
    	Stumpjumper Comp: $1250
    	Stumpjumper Team: $1500

I don't think that there is that MUCH difference between the Mt.
LX and Deore XT. I have the XT and my son has Mt. LX, and I can't
tell the difference. I mostly notice tyres and frame differences
    between the two bikes.

The Deore sure looks cool though :-)

    re: .8 -- hyperglide

Without being certain about the technical aspects, it allows you to
shift under load. I've got it and can shift while climbing hills,
for instance. It's great! I believe the rear sprockets are shaped
a little different so that the chain doesn't leave the last gear
until it's on the next one.
