1211.0. "Cheap weekend trip...TOSRV-EAST '89 (Vermont)" by SMURF::CHETAL () Tue Jun 20 1989 03:49

    Hi,

    I had registered for the TOSRV-EAST '89 this year but *won't* be able
    to make it.
    TOSRV-EAST is from June 23rd - 25th. It goes 107 miles along the
    Vermont's scenic route 100 from RawsonVille to Waterbury on Saturday
    and 107 miles back on Sunday.
    This is thru the AYH (Americam Youth Hostel) but U don't have to be a
    member of it. It is really cheap and costs $35.
    I need a replacement for this trip.

    Either send me mail at
    	flume::chetal
    or
    call me at DTN 381-0424

    Thanks,

    /Pradeep

    	Some comments may be useful here: This is one of the premier
    rides in New England. It is tough! Going out of Rawsonville, you
    get warmed up and then hit Terrible Mountain. Really, that's it's
    name! It's a long climb (for Easterners, not to bad if you are used
    to the passes in the West) and steep. After Ludlow and some nice
    riding you hit Killington Gap, another long climb, but not as steep.
    After another nice section you hit the Duxbury hills, a series of
    moderate climbs. Which brings you to the close of Saturday. Then,
    on Sunday, you retrace your steps, doing Terrible Mountain at the
    end of the ride. I quit at Ludlow. - Chris
1211.2Yeah, but it's so beautiful...DASXPS::SCHULMANWed Jun 21 1989 18:1511
    Don't make it sound too formidable. It's all in how fast you take
    it. This is one of my favorite rides of the year and the countryside
    is incredibly beautiful, especially if you've been stuck in the Boston
    area.

    Must admit though, conquering Terrible Mountain at the 80 mile mark
    on the second day creates a real sense of accomplishment.

    We started off the fourth, and last, day of Boston-Montreal-Boston
    by climbing Terrible. It was all downhill from there.
