| Here's what I know, I've been told that GIANT was exclusively a
frame manufacturer supplying many of the big names in the sport.
What those names are I couldn't tell you. They recently decided
to all out and provide an entire bicycle, which they do (a whole
line, in fact). Dealers I've spoken to speak highly of them as
well. If you think about it, they're using the same components
that their customers were using anyway. They eliminate the middle
man (maybe mfgs like Schwinn, Fuji, Univega, ?????) and are able
to offer more, more competitively. They simply must've asked the
question, "Why not do it all ourselves?"

| I've heard the same thing about Giant. A number of bike resellers
OEM their frames from Giant. The name of the game is that companies
like Giant build to spec when supplying resellers. Do not assume
that the frame built by Giant for some big name reseller is the
same one sold by Giant to consumers. It may be better, it may be
the same or it may be worse. Judge the Giant bicycle for what
it is, not for whom they've built for.

| There is another note mentioning Giant bikes somewhere in this file...
do a search for Giant and see what turns up. I believe the note
mentioned that Giant builds for Specialized, and I KNOW that Giant
builds for Schwinn (their sticker is still on the new bikes down
at the local Schwinn dealer...mountain bikes, that is). Like -.1
said....judge the Giant bicycle for what it is.

A friend rented a Giant ATB from a local shop. We went out riding, and I
had a bit of a surprise. When I lined up my Specialized Rockhopper Comp
next to the Giant, the frames were identical. There was no discernible
difference...
There certainly was a difference in components, though...
