1058.0. "Where's John Lee Ellis?" by ANKH::CRITZ (A noid is annoyed) Wed Mar 22 1989 12:26

Latest Bicycling has an article about people who ride many
miles per year. One fella did 50K last year, and most of
that, if I remember correctly, was in and around New York
city. The second fella is called "Danimal," because he
rode across a desert or something by himself (read the
article for details). He rode 21K last year. Then, they
mentioned a couple who rode a high number of miles.

    	So what, you say.

Well, I'd have liked to seen an article about our own John
Lee Ellis. After all, he's done more than the "nut" from
NYC. Maybe we ought to boycott the magazine until John Lee
gets his name (and body) into an article.

    	Whaddaya think?

Ya, I read that article and was thinking the same thing. Send a letter to the
editor. Although John's bike wasn't a 50-pound Schiwnn.

    	Tom,

As I finished this note, I decided to do just that. It
should be in the mail by tomorrow or Friday (or Saturday,
    	or Sunday, or...)

I finished the letter today. I sent it to John for his
approval. If and when John approves it, I'll send it
    	out immediately.

I'm just back to NC after riding Ed's Ciocc-mit-umlaut. Ed gave
me a less-is-more edge by not greasing the chain - NH residents
and other wildlife could hear me for miles. But we had a good ride.

As I told Scott, I'm honored at the suggestion, and don't mind a
bit! (That doesn't mean I feel bad about not having a 50-pound
    Schwinn. ;-) )

    Thanks... -john

Well, the title is appropriate even if the note, per se, is
    	not.

John is now working for Performance Factors, Inc., in Golden,
CO. He said they do medical biometrics (whatever that is).

His commute is currently 62 highway miles (one way) from
    	Loveland to Golden.

He and Pat are supposed to close on a house shortly in
    	Louisvill, CO.

John said a couple of the folks he works with are fairly
    	serious cyclists.

I was in grad school with folks doing some of the earliest
biometrics stuff on computers. Gideon Ariel was the prof
and the lackies (aka, grad students) were in my office. In
those days that studied things like cats on treadmills. By 1976
    they were studying Olympic athletes.

I got mail from Pat this am, so she is now also computerized.
