935.0. "need builder with tools for tricky repair" by VISUAL::MILLING (Bob Milling, MKO2-2/K03, 264-2068) Tue Dec 06 1988 11:50

Looking for a frame builder in the New England area who can ream
a stripped BB shell and retap with accurately aligned Italian threads
without destroying a nice paint job.

    Easy, right?

    Suggestions ...

I think what you are looking for is someone with the full Campy
tool kit that includes the special threading taps and dies. I know
that Paul Randazzo at Category One Cyclegoods has them. He's in
Tyngsboro operating out of his garage - the bike shop wasn't
a money making proposition. You can reach him evenings at (508)
649-7599. Any good shop that has the Campy tool set should be
able to do the job - probably Belmont Wheel Works in Waltham or
the Bicycle Exchange in Cambridge too. - Chris

Hey Chris:

Belmont Wheelworks is in Belmont, not in Waltham.

Know who was buried in Grant's tomb?

	[sorry, just couldn't resist]

    For frame work Peter Mooney at Wheelworks (that's Belmont, not Waltham;
I know because I live in Waltham) has got to be one of the best
in New England if not the country. If something breaks on one of
his bikes (that's HIS bike, not yours by the way) you bring it in
and he fixes, period. Peter is VERY versed in the campagnolo language.
I bought a five year old Mooney frame (looked brand new) and I can
personally count over 30 people in my club alone that ride Mooney's.
Before we changed sponsors we could've been known as the Peter Mooney
Road Club. (By the way, those 30 or so people did not get them
    at bargain basement prices).

"Who's buried in Grant's Tomb?"

My sixth grade teacher asked this question of a hapless classmate when
he gave an incredibly wrong answer to a simple question (which I no
longer recall). Everyone but the poor fellow got a good howl when
he tried to redeem himself by answering:

"McKinley?"

You see, I grew up in Canton, Ohio. The McKinley Monument is one of
our prominent local landmarks.

Well, we in Ohio thought it was funny...

I just worry that there are people in this notes file giving advice
on complicated technical subjects, such as Campy components and
special threading taps and dies, who can't figure out where Belmont
Wheelworks is located.

I am concerned that this could harm the integrity of this notes
conference and all cyclists as well.

Just possibly we should consider some sort of minimal licensing
process to protect fellow cyclists from such people. Maybe this
conference needs a warning label in its title, similar to that on
cigarettes, saying "follow advice at your own risk, get a second
opinion" (if you can find the bike shop suggested to get that second
opinion)?

	~Mike (getting carried away)

Chris, I owe you a large hot fudge sundae after all this (from
Belmont Wheelworks!)

Aw, sheeee****t. I gotta plead ignoramus, or something. I've
never been there, but travel to there was described to me as:
    	Go to Waltham on 128
Get off on Trapello Rd. eastbound
Go until you see the store (with some landmarks noted)

I guess what confused me is another shop with a town name in the title
    - can't remember what it is - that was in a new location, not
the town in the name, that I dealt with while doing the NEAR Exhibits.

"Memory is the second thing to go." I forget what the first is.

935.9Need phone number for WheelworksPROMPT::MILLINGBob Milling, MKO2-2/K03, 264-2068Thu Jan 12 1989 20:388
Well, I would like to call first. :-)

    DIR/ALL/TITLE="wheelwork" points to 619.2, 619.3, and 637.2. No phone
number. Seems like some kind soul could provide it here and save the
rest of us from having to call directory assistance (out-of-state in
    my case).
