754.0. "MOUNTAIN BIKE MT SNOW VT." by AKOV11::FULLER () Wed Jun 29 1988 20:44

Has anyone gone mountain biking at Mt. Snow Vermont? We are going
up there this weekend and would like to know what to expect in terms
of terrain, trails, and quality of the map that is sold.

I understand that they have a mountain bike school there.
It's rather expensive (around $250-$300 for the weekend).
Which includes food, lodging and the use of a Cannondale.
Just out of curiosity...does anyone know exactly what it
is that they teach? Are there that many subtleties to
mountain biking to warrant taking lessons? I mean, I learned
quite a bit about MBing during the first few beatings - if
you know what I mean. :-)

We did go to Mount Snow, it was a great, tiring weekend. We did
not take part in the school since we were all experienced mountain
bikers. The school appeared to be for beginners, I only saw them
on the dirt roads surrounding Mt. Snow. We purchased their map,
$5.00 and it was basically not much help, except on the Mt. Snow
property. Climbing the mountain on a dirt access road was interesting,
some walking and resting was needed. The downhill was tremendous!!!
Other than the mountain trails, the map leads you around dirt and
old class 4 roads. Following the map was next to impossible. I
would advise obtaining a Vermont Map book which has more detail.
I have heard that next year, Mt. Snow will be charging admission
to use their facilities, but this year it is free.

We are now planning another trip in foliage season.
