712.0. "Great Mass Getaway" by CIMAMT::CHINNASWAMY (bicycling in pixel space,',',',) Wed Jun 08 1988 12:50

A couple of friends and I are planning to ride in the Great Mass Getaway
which is a two day 150mile total bike ride to raise money for multiple
sclirosis (sp?). Is anyone else from the company going to ride in this?
It costs $49.00 for the rider to supply food and overnite lodging. The
ride goes from Haverill Mass to UNH in Durham NH. To qualify you must
raise $150.00 in pledges, But with DEC's matching program thats only
$75.00. I can get more brochures if anyone is interested, just send me
mail. If you can't ride can you sponser me or even better find someone
who wants to ride but hasn't been able raise enough yet. We could use
this note to figure these things out. Also I've never riden more than
50 miles in one day let alone 75 two days straight. I have been slowly
increasing my mileage but need a few tips on how I should proceed in
my mileage.

thanx

I've sent in the form from the back of the brochure saying that I am
interested in participating in the ride. I've yet to hear back from
    them though.

Most of my riding is short distance too, so I'm going to be in the same
    situation that you are.

712.2I do this ride the easy way. . .WITNES::MACONEWed Jun 22 1988 20:5014
I rode in Pedal Power's repair van lastyear, and most likely will
be doing the same this year.

If you want any advice as to the common mechanical problems that
wer forever occuring, send me mail @ WITNESS::MACONE.

And just, FYI it's more like 85 miles each day, which can really
make a difference if your'e not used to such long miles.

Good luck to both of you.

Drop by the van to say hello, even if you don't have reapir problems!

I rode this event in 86, 87, and will ride in 88. This event
has had between 10-12 DEC riders in 86/87 (mostly Stow folks)
who from 85-87 have raised over $10,000!

Last year, the organizers worked out most of the "bugs" from
previous years and, together with two perfect sunny days, made
    for a great ride.

I've found this event to be very supportive to riders, contain
some great scenery, and plenty of FOOD, (Clambake @ UNH, Cookout
    @ Haverhill).
