634.0. "Frame size for a Mountain Bike?" by AIMHI::SMITH (Never say never, I always say.) Mon Apr 25 1988 15:03

Generally speaking, what is/are the criteria for selecting the
proper frame size for a Mountain Bike? Two inches less than
your Road Bike, 3-4 inches "crotch-clearance" when straddling
the bike (with shoes on), or what? Thanks.

You're probably right. I didn't know. Yikes, I'll have to
get a real pee-wee frame, being only 1.6m tall, with a
proportionately short inseam. Too bad the price of the
    	bike won't be proportionately smaller!

With my short legs, I ride a 19 inch road bike. When I started
looking for a mountain bike a couple of years ago, I couldn't find
a full size one locally that would fit! I ended up ordering one
(17 inch) from Bike Nashbar without "trying it on". It is just
the right size, I would not want one any larger.

I have riden (sp?) even a smaller one than mine, a friend of mine
has a small women's model, and have had a ball with it! I can move
(maneuver) it so much easier. For fun off the road riding, my
recommendation is don't be afraid to buy a smaller frame, you'll
    have more fun.

    My two cents worth..........
