576.0. "HELP WANTED" by CREDIT::HOLDEN () Mon Mar 14 1988 18:45

    The organizers of Boston-Montreal-Boston (the longest single
    stage ride in the US outside of RAAM we believe) are looking
    for volunteers to man checkpoints during the ride.  Crews
    will be given expense and mileage money to cover their costs.
    
    The ride will be held in the second week of August so it
    should be warm.  The route is mostly scenic as well.  The
    tasks can be negotiated or assigned but consist mostly of
    stamping and signing riders cards, keeping track of who comes
    through and when, directing riders to food and sleeping
    arrangements and making sure riders are physically and 
    mentally alive.
    
    The route will start around Wellesley MA, head west through
    Barre, up to Brattleboro, west to route 100, up to Middlebury,
    though the Middlebury Gap, up through Burlington, through the
    Lake Champlain area, crossing the border at Rousse's Point
    and up to Montreal.  The return trip is identical.  Note that
    the course is not yet finalized.  
    
    If you know anyone who lives on the course who might be
    willing to help or someone willing to drive to an area to do
    support please have them contact me as soon as possible.

Has an attempt been made to identify the bike shops along the route and to
contact them?  This seems to me to be the best source of potential supporters. 
The shops should be able to put you in contact with the local clubs as well.
