363.0. "Tandems" by KIRK::JOHNSON (Matt Johnson) Fri Jun 26 1987 16:21

    It's a fantasy of mine to own a good tandem, so I can ride with
    friends who have different abilities. The sensation of speed
    and the sheer mass of these human-powered behemoths roaring along
    makes for a good time.

    Unfortunately, good tandems are expensive - $1000 and up. It
    also would be impossible for me to get one into my apartment.
    So - I'm wondering: does anyone near Boston rent decent tandems?
    If so, for how much? Or, as an alternative, any tandem owners
    out there interested in working out an "arrangement"?

363.1There may be a cheap tandem for sale....JACUZI::DESHARNAISFri Jun 26 1987 17:1113
    There was an add in the Digital This Week newsletter from someone
    trying to sell a Schwinn tandem. If I recall correctly, it was
    about 2 or 3 months ago and the price was $300.00. It may still
    be for sale if you want to look back through some past issues of
    the newsletter.

    It isn't a real great tandem, but good enough to have some fun on
    and keep locked up outside. Just thought I'd mention it in case
    your might be interested.

    Regards,
    Denis

    	Footnote on tandems: Peter Mooney of Belmont Wheelworks was
    discussing his requirements for an exhibit at NEAR. He wants a location
    near a door since HE WILL BE GIVING TEST RIDES ON *SANTANA* TANDEMS!
    If you want to try the Mercedes of tandems, come to NEAR.
    	If you are there the day (Friday pm, I think) I give my recumbent
    workshop, Garry Miller may let you try his Counterpoint semi-recumbent
    tandem.  - Chris

    Santana may be a Mercedes. But the Counterpoint is the LUXURY yardstick
    by which all tandems are measured.

    You bet! We'll have the bike up there on Friday, but we don't plan
    on staying overnight...we will stay as long as people want to "ride
    in the lap of luxury".
