                                ANNOUNCING THE

The Princeton Hills Ride With Homemade Ice Cream Afterwards Ride

Date: Saturday, June 20. (Rain date, June 21)
If the weather is questionable, call me. (464-5347)
    Start time: 9:30 a.m.
Start place: 236 Worcester Road (Route 31), Princeton, MA
    Length: About 42 miles
Afterwards: Ice cream, lemonade, Sesame Street pool

Description: Rolling terrain, some back roads with a lot of
bumps. Nice scenery. We'll go from Princeton into
Westminster, Hubbardston, Barre, Oakham, Rutland and
    		 back to Princeton.

Bring your lunch. We'll stop at Barre Falls Dam for
    		 a break.

Pace: Very leisurely. Except for Reg who will probably ride
like a madman so he can hit the pool first.

Directions: Find your way to the center of Princeton. We're 2
miles SOUTH of the center, on Route 31, about 1/2 mile
past the Mountain Barn restaurant. If you go south
on Route 31 and pass the Holden town line, you've gone
     		 too far.

I'll put my flourescent orange jacket over the mailbox.
The mailbox is across the street from the driveway.

If you need better directions, please send me mail
and let me know where you're coming from.

If you want, just meet us at Princeton Center. It
takes about 15 minutes to ride there from my house.
(It's only 2 miles, but it's mostly uphill.)

re .0	Reg is riding very slowly and not very far this year.
I will not get to the pool first and pollute it with my normally
profuse ...umm, "skin oils". This will leave it tolerable by the
rest of you and less of a fire hazard. I happen to know that Jay
Norton (Mr Kathy) knows the short cuts on this ride, so I won't
even try to get anywhere first.

    	Reg

333.3What would you do, Vern?AMUN::CRITZYa know what I mean, VernThu Jun 04 1987 19:0811
I'd like to be a part of this thing, if for no other
reason than to meet some of the other folks in this
    	conference.

Unfortunately, John Wasser, some friends, and I are
planning on scuba diving that day. Of course, John
and I could bring our gear and scuba dive in the pool
(somehow I don't think it's too good an idea).

    	Oh well,
    	Scott

I'm torn. If it's a nice day, I'll be on the Cape.
How about this....If the day is REAL nice, I won't be there. If
it's not perfect, I'll be there. Can't ride, but the doctor told
me the perfect excercise for the shoulder is to turn an Ice Cream
maker. As long as I get to lick the paddles!!!!

I can just hear Reg now..."if HE shows, that ruins a perfect day!".

    Oh well

I'm leaving that very day for a one week bike trip through the
finger lakes in New York State. But for an ISCREAM ride I
will consider leaving late or cancelling the trip!

Please don't anybody get psyched about this pool. It's a little
kid's pool, just barely big enough to get wet in. Don't bother
    bringing a bathing suit.

    Kathy
333.8You gonna be first, Vern?AMUN::CRITZYa know what I mean, VernTue Jun 09 1987 16:308
That's kinda what I was thinking when I read `Sesame
    	Street pool.'

But, when you're hot and tired, just about anything
    	will do.

Scott (I wouldn't be the first there, but I'll bet
you'd get out of it if you saw me coming)
333.9small pools do get used sometimes.NOVA::FISHERWed Jun 10 1987 13:518
I recall being the sag driver of the (in)famous Six State Ride
wherein every rider but one used the fountain in the center of
Barry for some reason. The fountain was no bigger than a "kiddy
    pool."

(the "one" rider had just sat in a lake for an hour or so.)

I'ld like to come for this "event", but have to discuss it with
Mrs Black. This might necessitate us all (five) comming, with the
three little buggers in the bugger and kidy seat.

Will the Norton Bugger be atending?

    	Andrew

333.11CHEAPR::NORTONThu Jun 11 1987 19:408
I'm afraid the Norton Bugger is going to wimp out on this one.
I'd consider it if I had a triple, but even with my granny gear
it's still tough going up some of those hills.

Your three little buggers (and Mrs. Black) and more than welcome,
    whether they ride or not.

Thanks again Kathy, super ride, super day, sorry I had to leave
so early. Yup, they're about as steep as I remember them, but I
had forgotten the extra 6 or so miles at the end, *KILLER* !

Kathy, Thanks for a challanging ride and the 'pool' party
afterwards. Although I wimped-out and only did about 30+ miles,
I was there unlike most other noters. [ It reminded me of a locker
room in a Catholic School - hot, sweaty, and all male, with Mother
Superior nearby.] Thanks to Jay, too! - Chris

I would have liked to ride (as I previously mentioned). But
I hadn't been diving all year, so Saturday I was down about
25 feet or so looking at the sea life.

Kathy,
Thanks for a wonderful ride with some great downhills and greater ice
cream. I hope we can do it again next year.

I'm glad you guys had a good time. Sorry I didn't get to socialize
too much afterwards. That's how it is when you're a mother!!

I've got another ride I'd like to plan for the fall. It's got some
    GREAT hills! More details later.

I wooda been there. Actually got my Trek out of hock and began to
ride UP to the Norton's...but I forgot how out of shape a broken
shoulder and a month's layoff can cause. So in Sterling I turned
north and ended up wimping at my daughter's home in Leominster.

Happy to say that I am not taking the doctor's advice. I'm riding
again in spite of the PAIN. We'll be riding to Syracuse on the
    Counterpoint come August 1!

Thanks for the offer, Kathy. From what I see others saying about
the ride, it makes me want to be there next time.

    For the fall...a ROTTOM????

want to add my thanks also for the really enjoyable ride and post-ride
food/pool and rest. Most impressive sight: the mother who pulled
into the Barre ice cream joint where we were eating with 30-pound
    kid
on the back of her bike in the Cookie Monster bike seat, having
just hauled UP the hill into Barre (not the same hill we took, she
came up 122 from the south, but a substantial hill nonetheless).
Gave her a round of applause as she got to the top. Most comical:
the kid out on a drive with his girlfriend trying to depart same
    location with his emergency brake on. Now that was a GOOD BRAKE;
I guess that's required in that town. For those of you not there,
he was able to move the car 2-foot increments before stalling -
leaving rubber on road from back tire that was positively NOT
TURNING. His face was somewhat red on revalation that brake was
on. All in all, fine day... Reg & I both discovering our legs were
unhappy on the LAST HILL and wanted to go into cramps...well timed!

Everybody must have recovered from last year's ride by now, so let's
do it again!! How about Saturday, July 9, starting at 9:30 a.m. with
Sunday, July 10 as a rain date.

Check out note 333.0 for a description of the ride and directions
to the start. If you need better directions, or want to vote for
a particular flavor of ice cream, let me know.

I might NOT make it this year.

I'm sick, I seem to be getting worse and its only two days away.
