323.0. "Looking for RACER" by MAGIC1::GRACE () Thu May 21 1987 06:57

I was just fit-kitted at Category 1 Cyclegoods by Paul Randazzo.
It was worthwhile and I thank the people in this conference for
recommending them. My girlfriend will be fitted there, too!

I'm wondering if anyone is interested in selling thiir 20 inch (50cm)
size racing bike. I have a Raleigh that doesn't suit my new training
needs and I want to see if there's something in the conference someone
might want to sell. I can wait for a year if there is someone
eventually selling a Nishiki or Univega (for ex.) which weighs about 24
lbs. and is well equipped. Maybe this person wants to go to the
new SIS shifting bikes and wants an upgrade.

I don't know if this is ludicrous to expect a reply but I have to
    try anyhow!

Meanwhile I'll get in shape, work hard, and enjoy the process of
    getting in shape for now!
                                     Thanks,
                                     Russ

re .0	Well, if you've just been fit kitted and understood
the concepts involved, let me ask you this:-

What length top tube are you looking for in a used bike ?

I was fitted to a combination top tube/stem lenght of 62-63 cm. (53.5
top and 9cm stem as example) would be great. The recommended max.
seat tube angle is 74.5 deg.

My current seat tube angle is 73 1/2 deg with 56.5 cm. top tube
and 9 cm. stem. This stem is apparently a little long.

I hope to find this type of bike somewhere in used but not abused
    shape.

All this is somewhat interesting but what is bothering me is that I
love to go fast and there's too much frame flexing. I want to
understand more of the fit-kit dynamics but my frame is a decent tourer
and I'm looking to being in a sport or sport/racing category of riding.

I'm riding more and it's a ball. I got 20 - 25 mph. out of it and my body
I want more speed and some smoothness. Anyone have any suggestions?
Am I being reasonable or is the used market bereft of what I'm looking
    for?

I am riding this summer so that I can know more about what I need
and be better educated about riding in general.

Sounds like you and me ride the same size racing bike, I use a 53.5
top tube on both of my best bikes, but a 10 cm on the one with the
73 degree seat tube (TT bike) and 11.5 on the road race bike which
    is 74 degrees.

Don't get too enamored with what a Fit-Kit will advise you, use
your own best judgement on what feels most comfortable to you. It
does sound like your current bike is too large (long).

Look in the WantAds, there's lots of good racing bikes in there
every week, especially right about now. All I have left that I'd
be willing to sell is an old Team Miyata frameset, I've sold off
all the racing bikes which I didn't ride anymore.

Good luck hunting, and keep us posted
