255.0. "Bike repair Workshops???" by ISWISS::FINIZIO () Tue Apr 07 1987 19:04

    	Does anyone know of any Bicycle Maintenance seminars or
    	workshops happening in the near future? Preferably in
    	the Marlboro/Worcester area.

    				Thanks
    				Bob

    Fritz' Bicycle Shop on Mountain St. in Worcester runs maintenance
    classes at least twice a year for about $50 for a 6-8 week course.
    I took it about two years and recommend it if you haven't done much
    repair or maintenance and don't even know what tools to buy.

Re: .1:
I see no problem with the question and no problem with its being
asked here. Shooting someone down for asking isn't the attitude us
cyclists need to project.

Another place to find a course is bike club newsletters.
Charles River Wheelmen had one last night (so sorry).

Also the Broadway Bicycle School in Cambridge has a regular program.
Maybe someone else can elaborate on the details, or if something
similar exists closer to Marlboro.

    RE: 255.1

    I agree with Mike in note 255.3 It doesn't seem to me that Bob wanted
    ideas on which manual was good to buy. He's looking for a workshop
    so he can get hands-on training relating to the maintenance of his
    bike. Also, workshops are a great way to meet people. The notes
    file is designated for individuals to express ideas, questions and
    concerns. If we shoot employees down, the tendency for them to
    communicate within the notes file will greatly subside. Lets not
    let that happen....

    Further, a class (even a short seminar) is very helpful. Assuming
    you're not a mechanical whiz (like me; I took a class on how to
    operate a can opener :}) ), class room experience is invaluable
    as a precursor to 'working by the manual'.

    Yep, yep ! I'm looking for that same class; $55 for an overhaul
    at Gamache's is a little steep for my weekend riding.
255.6Bike Club MeetingsEAGLE1::CAMILLIWed Apr 08 1987 17:256
	In the past, the DEC Bike Club has had people from area bike shops
	at club meetings to do talks on maintenance, among other things.

	The bike club has gotten off to a slow start and, as far as I
	know, nothing is planned for this year, yet. -Any volunteers?

    Check the Adult Ed. programs in your area. Bicycle repair is becoming
    a popular class. The courses are usually taught by local shop
    personnel.
255.8Here's one....:-)ISWISS::FINIZIOWed Apr 08 1987 20:2522

    	Thanks for all the feedback and defense in this note. I called
    	Fritz's up and they will be running a Maintenance Class at the
    	end of september (They are too busy this time of the year).
    	Some info on the class:

    		o It runs 8 weeks

    		o You can go on either Monday or Tuesday Nights

    		o Will cost about $50.00

    		o You basically take apart and reassemble your bike
    		  during these 8 weeks. There is a discount on tools
    		  and parts that you may need during the course.

    				Again thanks for the input......

	It might be a bit out of your way but for the benefit
of the New Hampshirites the Nashua Velo Club will be holding
a WRENCHING ??? session this coming Monday evening (Apr 13th).
Ron from Goodales bike shop will be conducting the session. It
might be MEMBERS ONLY so you might have to get a members invitation
to attend. I didn't bother to get all the details because I'm
going to be traveling next week.
