162.0. "Let's brag about this year's mileage" by MOSAIC::BROWN () Wed Oct 29 1986 14:39

Today was my 100th (and last) 27.2 mile commute of '86. With the
riding season winding down, I thought it would be interesting to
find out how other people did mileage-wise this year, commuting
or otherwise. I had 3 flats, wore through 4 or 5 (plain ol' 100
psi) tires, and broke a rear axle, but other than that found this
summer to be exceptionally enjoyable season!

Ok, what was your mileage?

Glad you asked. So far, (checking the log book), but still counting,

8165 miles, 30 rides of 100 or more miles (2 were double C's) rode on 158
days. Got rained on many, many times, sleeted upon once. I don't think I
ever hit 4000 miles before.

New personal bests in all areas except that I did not make it up Mt
Washington this year. 2 Centuries in 5:31, a double in 14:00, 13.4 mi time
trial in 35:02.

Finished the Mt Wachusett hill climb race in the top third (7/27) instead
of the bottom third (14/18) among unlicensed vets, of course. It must have
been the fact that drafting was allowed this year (?!?!).

Went to the worlds, though I did not get a chance to drop in on our CS
friends, I did ride 335 miles while there -- including meeting and riding
with Janelle Park twice, both by accident, she eventually won the Women's
Silver in the Amateur Roads.

Lost 15 to 20 lbs. Will try to keep it off.

Altogether, I am very pleased and looking forward to 1987.
