Our organizatonal meeting was held on May 27.  Following an interesting
tune-up clinic conducted by Paul Randazzo of Category One Cycle Goods,
we held our election of officers.  Bike Club meetings are planned for
the fourth Tuesday of each month.  We have also planned a series of
weekly "show and go" rides and a June 15 half metric (see announcements
below).  All DEC employees along with spouses, significant others and
friends are invited.

The show-and-go rides are scheduled for each Tuesday at 6:00 pm.  These
will be short (10 - 15 mile) rides... the route and pace depends on who
shows up.  Beginners as well as experienced cyclists are encouraged to
show up.  Besides the ride, it is an excellent opportunity to meet fellow
bikers, get free advice, etc.

The June show-and-gos are scheduled to meet in the parking lots of the
following facilities at 6:00 pm:

                         June  3:   OGO  (Stow - off Rt. 117)
                         June 10:   LTN1 
                         June 17:   HLO2
                         June 24:   MRO3 (prior to monthly meeting)

We will meet in the parking lot of OGO (Stow facility) for a ride of
30 - 35 miles, culminating in a stop at Kimball's Ice Cream in 
Westford.  All Bike Club members, DEC employees and guests are invited.



HOW TO WIN THE RESPECT OF MOTORISTS...

The following came from the USENET net.bicycle newsgroup...
 
     Reading in bed the other night, I came across the following passage
     in *Backcountry Bikepacking*, by William Sanders, and thought it might
     be relevant to the ongoing (and recurring) discussions on how to
     cope with incompetent, ignorant, drunk, or otherwise murderous drivers:
 
       		Some years ago I used to cycle out to an old gravel pit
		for rifle practice, and, as was legal in that state, I
		carried my rifle slung across my back.  Though I had to
		ride along a very busy road that I usually tried to avoid,
		I discovered that people became amazingly considerate;
		nobody passed at close range, honked, or anything.  If
		you're one of those cyclists who worries about being
		seen by drivers, take it from me -- throw away the
		reflectors and flags, and sling a .30/06 Springfield
		across your shoulder blades.  I guarantee you, *they'll
		see you* -- and exhibit a remarkable tolerance toward
		your lifestyle.
 



      ****  O T H E R    U P C O M I N G    A C T I V I T I E S  ****

TOSRV-EAST - JUNE 20-22
     Join AYH on the 15th annual Tour of Scenic Rural Vermont.  This trip
     begins in Rawsonville VT and follows rt. 100 to the Ski Hostel lodge
     in Waterbury Center.  Since the ride covers 100 miles each way, only
     experienced cyclists should register.  Cost is $35, which includes
     accommodations, sag service and insurance coverage.  Participation is
     limited to 80, so register early.  To register (or for more information)

BUD LIGHT PAN-MASSACHUSETTS CHALLENGE - JUNE 21-22
     Sturbridge to Provincetown (187 miles, two days) to benefit the Jimmy
     Fund.  Cyclists must collect a minimum of $400 in pledges and 
     contributions.  A deposit of $50 is required no later than June 14.

BAM '86 (BICYCLE ACROSS MASSACHUSETTS) - JULY 3-6
     Join the Cyclonauts Bicycling Club of West Springfield for a ride 
     across the state.  Maximum limit of entries set at 100.  Trip covers
     approximately 55 miles per day, starting in Great Barrington and
     ending with a banquet in Plymouth.  Cost of $138 covers 3 nights
     sleeping in college dorms, 3 breakfasts, box lunches and dinners, and
     the banquet in Plymouth, tour packet and a BAM T-shirt.  Registration
     fee is non-refundable after June 1.  Minimum age is 18.  For more

COAST OF MAINE TOUR - JULY 11-13
     Easy Rider Tours is offering a Coast of Maine tour in conjunction
     with the Lotus Bike Club.  The tour includes camping on the beach at
     Casco Bay, cycling along the coast and staying at an oceanfront inn,
     and touring rural inland roads.  Cost is $100, which includes all food,
     lodging, dinner and breakfast at the Birchwood Inn, leaders, map and
     a two-hour bike touring clinic and preparatory meeting.  A $50 deposit

NEAR '87 UPDATE . . . The New England Area Rally is planning its next 
      biannual event for summer 1987 in southern New Hampshire.  The 
      Granite State Wheelmen will be the host club.  If you want to help
