574.0. "Slackware 3.1 on Digital Personnal Workstation 6200..." by PANTER::MARTIN (Be vigilant...) Thu Feb 06 1997 12:50

    I'm trying to install Linux on the PC mentionned in the subject.

    It has a AHA2940/UW SCSI adapter and a Matrox Millenium graphic board
    on the PCI bus. The CDROM is an ATAPI compatible one on EIDE.

    When I try to boot aha2x4x.s from a floppy created with rawrite, the
    CDROM is recognized, but the AHA2940/UW is not : scsi hosts : 0...
    When I go on with color.gz and get the root prompt, looking at
    /proc/pci shows nothing on the PCI bus.

    Same story with Red Hat distribution (with other boot files of course)
    from the Infomagik CDROM distrib.

    My system BIOS is made by Phoenix (V4.05) and the SCSI adapter's BIOS
    is at V1.22S.

    Notice that W95 and WNT 4.0 both recognize the HW.

    Any similar experience/suggestion or a solution to this problem ?

    Many thank's in advance for your help and best regards !

    Did you not search this conference for '2940'?

    (Notes 304,341,356, et al seem to cover the subject.)
574.2PCI code problem -> need 2.0 kernelSUBSYS::CARLETONA paradigm shift without a clutchWed Feb 26 1997 02:183

    I had to use 2.0 or higher kernel to get the PCI chip on my AHA2940
    to be recognized. I'm using RedHat 4.0 now and it works fine.
