2520.0. "Toyota RAV4 - thoughts?" by WOTVAX::stus.olo.dec.com::HATTOS (Che moto, che cul !) Wed Jun 05 1996 15:44

Anyone any thoughts - good or bad - on the Toyota RAV4. Specifically the 5
door GX but anything will do.

Depends what you want to do with it Stuart. One of the contractors in
our group has one, although I haven't been in it myself. I used to have
Frontera Sport which has a lot more room and more ground clearance, and
has selectable 4 wheel Drive . also the rear suspension looks very
exposed on a RAV4 if you were considering serious off-roading.

CAR Magazine gave it a fairly good write-up. Their main complaint was
that, from the inside, it felt like being inside a Corrolla.

They also passed the comment that it was very car-like to drive (on the
plus side) whilst maintaining a fair bit of ability off the beaten
    track.

Re -.1, I think they are great. Full marks to Toyota for breaking the
    mould.

I test drove one when selecting my current company car. Thoughts
    were...

    1) Great looking, real poser value. However, 4 door not as striking as
two door (we wanted 4 door).

    2) Felt that selectable 4 wheel drive may have improved consumption.
Not that I had any idea what this was, good or bad.

    3) Stereo not up to much as I recall. Bit tinny.

    4) Not THAT quiet on the motorway but then again it isn't a car.

    5) Big killer was space. I really couldn't see my kids tolerating the
back seat for a long journey. Also load space wasn't that vast. And
    this was the 4 door.

In summary great as a second car but not a serious contender for a
family of five as a main vehicle.

Hmm,

I want the 5 door, but agree it doesn't look as good as the 3 door.

I guess the 5 will have more space.
