2451.0. "Clutch with a 'click'" by CHEFS::ALLAN () Tue Sep 12 1995 14:21

    Any of your mechanical men out there able to give a view on the
    following:

    I'm getting a 'clicking' sound each time I push down the clutch pedal
    to change gear.

    Clutch has recently had a new clutch cable fitted, all was well for
    about 3/4 weeks.

    Then something which was described to me as two cogs, which the teeth on
    one had worn away and that was why each time I changed gear there was
    an almighty bang. Anyway the cogs were replaced last week, but I now can
    hear this 'click' when I put the pedal down.

    Any thoughts on what's causing it.

    Do you have a dry or wet clutch....could be that one of the plates is
    sticking.

2451.2Wet or Dry?CHEFS::ALLANTue Sep 12 1995 14:418
    What do you mean by 'wet' or 'dry' clutch.

    I know this is a stupid question but are you referring to the fact it
    has been raining?

    Or are they different kinds of clutch?

    What sort of click is it? A dull thud? A tinny click? A twang?

    Laurie.

    ... It's always made this noise.....

        You've only just noticed it because when the clutch cable was being
    fitted someone nicked your stereo...... :-)

      Alan

       ps.. it's nothing to worry about usually, as it's the clutch pedal
    spring stretching, it may well squeek in a few weeks time...
2451.7New clutch = higher pedalPLAYER::BROWNLTyro-Delphi-hackerTue Sep 12 1995 19:115
    Ok, then I suspect it's a spring or similar on or near to the pedal.
    Get someone to stick their head down in the footwell (ooerr missus!)
    and listen for where the noise comes from when you depress the pedal.

    Cheers, Laurie.

2451.11Clutch Adjusting Quadrant??CHEFS::HUNTLEY_RTue Sep 12 1995 22:029
    Sounds like the clutch adjusting quadrant. It fits at the top of the
    pedal and is supposed to automatically adjust the cable. These are the
    cogs that were replaced. Its possible that they weren,t installed
    correctly - or they could be still taking up slack in the cable.

    Hope this helps
