    Re: 2290.84 & .86

It surprises me that folks have put quotes in for Daewoos as they
are basically old style Astras and Cavaliers. Why go for a cheap
alternative when the lease cost of the latest model Vauxhalls are
    quite reasonable.

I think the package that Daewoo is offering with free servicing and
full warranty, breakdown cover etc. for 3 years is very attractive for
the personal buyer but we get all this anyway in the lease scheme.

I guess maybe it was hoped that the lease costs would be significantly
cheaper. I must admit I thought they would be considering the running
costs are built into the on the road price.

isn't the tax hit for a Daewoo significantly less than the equivilent
current GM car ? The Lease cost on some of the Vauxhalls may be
attractive, but you've still got to pay the tax !

This is true. Then again I think I'd rather have the Cavalier with the
2.0 engine than the equivalent Daewoo - the Cavalier is probably
cheaper but you pay more tax...

2438.4Market testingWIMPEY::GERRYTTue Aug 08 1995 17:0111
There is also another reason for testing the market i.e. to try and analyse
whether it may be better to come off the Car scheme. By analysing
comparative costs, including the tax issues, one can get a better feel
for options available. It also helps to assess the possible
residual values placed by the leasing company on the Daewoo or any
    other perceived 'cheaper' brands.

    Just a thought.

Whilst we're talking Daewoo, I bet the residual values will plummet
as only the initial owner benefits from the 3 year warranty and service
    package.

    re -1

If the warranty & service package can't be transferred, then yes, the
    residuals will fall like lead.
Sounds to me like a silly marketing blunder like Hoover flights!
Better that they flood the market with a cheap package and take the
risk, than put people off buying second-hand.

Anyone any ideas of trade-in offerings if you want to part-exchange
against a Daewoo?...or don't they do that either??!!

Yes the overall package is impressive, but after 3 years, when you try and
get rid, will it have the resale value of a 5 minute old Skoda?

I think you end up locked in to Daewoo, because you can't sell it to
anyone else except back to Daewoo for another one.

I may be wrong, they may take us by storm like Datsun did in the 70's. I
doubt it tho', rejuvenating the old Astra and Cavalier is hardly
innovative. They need a model of their own.

When you say the warranty can't be transferred - do you mean that if I
bought a Daewoo and sold it after 1 year it wouldn't have the remainder
    of the warranty?

I find this hard to believe as all other makers do this - for example I
was offered a Toyota with 1 year left of its 3 yr warranty - and I
thought Daewoo were trying to better the current warranty/servicing
    offerings.
