2413.0. "Fluffy Dice, are they legal ?" by COMICS::SUMNERC (Easy on the clutch luv) Thu May 25 1995 15:02

Are fluffy dice and other such object legal ? By legal, I mean
can you hang them from the mirror ?

I just wondered, I haven't just been sent any or anything.

    Regards,

    Chris

For the record, and from EF, my understanding is :

"Here in the UK, no, you will fail an MOT due to obscuring of your
    forward view."

I *thought* this to be the case from about 2 or 3 years ago, when the
law was changed, along with rules for cracked windscreens and stickers
    in the rear window.

However, as Chris pointed out elsewhere, it doesn't seem to have made
much difference [ref: Sad people with those red 'XR3I' or "MG METRO"
    stickers in back windscreens, etc.]

    Cheers,
    Dan

So if I put my fluffy dice and whale tail on my metro I'd still be
legal as long as I took them off at MOT time.

    Chris.

PS. I actually saw a metro with a whale tail...it looked "WICKED".
    :-}

Well, if a policeman/woman saw you and was feeling particularly nasty,
they could pull you over and 'do you' for it [fnaar] ....

    Cheers,

Don't laugh, Oh well OK - go on - but my partners car,
a Nissan Micra, I took along for it's MOT.

Fine said the man, apart from one little detail, and I quote
" If you take that nodding dog off the dashboard I can then pass it,
otherwise I would have to fail it due to it obscuring the windscreen"

So I took it off, he passed it, I drove out, putting it back, and
    everybody was happy.

It covers approx. a palmsize part of the windscreen on the passenger
    side, down in the corner.

I would if I had a diablo or something cool, I'd just ruin it
with fluffy dice, car seat covers (fluffy) and window stickers.

For people not in the know the "Love God Chick" was a window
sticker I noticed on a Reliant Robin (yellow) parked in a showcase
    cinema carpark.

Just for the record anything which will fail an MOT can get you nicked
    at any time.

2413.14Typo in -.1 + some on no. platesWELCLU::YOUNGPolicemen aren't nasty peopleFri May 26 1995 01:5915

    RE -.1
Firstly appologies for the typo in the title, it should of course say
    "fluffy"

secondly on the subject of getting nicked for having fluffy dice, the
Police in Essex are starting to clamp down on the unusual fonts used by
some, on number plates the law states that the no.'s/letters should be
of certain thicknesses (different for motorcycles etc) at all points
thus eliminating the scroll type fonts which seem to be appearing and
they are thinking about trying to nick supplying dealers for aiding and
abbetting to put a total stop to it.

Shame Essex Police couldn't bother themselves to do anything about
the problem on the M25 today, I guess they were too busy nicking
people for minor misdemeanours. I'm going to make an official complaint
about their lack of effort, I'll post any responses (probably none)
