2412.0. "Car brokers" by CHEFS::CARTERC () Wed May 24 1995 17:12

Has anyone any experience of buying from car brokers who offer to
source whichever car you would want at a low price?

Is this likely to be a better deal than going to a dealer?

    What's the catch?

Two possible disadvantages spring to mind (although some brokers may
    offer something) :-

    1) Usually no trade-in arrangements.

    2) Your car may come from a dealer hundreds of miles away and the local
dealer is unlikely to offer a free loan car while yours is being
serviced, which many do if you buy a new car from them.

I thought they bought from auctions, in which case you wouldn't get a
loan car at all. But some sell a guarantee so they may have a deal
    with a local garage.

I'm interested in knowing cos I may have to resort to one to get the
    car I want.

Where would one find one of these brokers, then?

Try in the back of "What Car", loads of companies advertising.

Nearly bought a car myself in this manner but decided to lease as I had
to put down less in capital.

    Hi,

There is a company in Basingstoke called Company Cars who specialise in
getting the car you want either from an auction or from a main dealer
Closed Sale, I know he can get the standard Vauxhalls, Fords etc and I
think he will look for basically anything.

The Guy to speak to is Gerry (the co-owner) on Basingstoke (01256)
25000, and say that Graham Naylor recommended you to him (the only
connection I have with the company is that my wife used to work for
    him).

I have bought two cars so far through him, both excellent deals.

He also may take a part exchange depending on the car, can arrange
    lease/hire purchase and everything else.

    Graham

I almost bought my 300zx through one of several Car Brokers in
London. He was able to affer a choice of cars (colours/trim) where a
local Nissan dealer could not. Prices were several thousand pounds
cheaper too. I think they just have lots of contacts up and down the
    country .

The down side, and the reason I didn't buy from them was the fact they
were faceless and a bit anonymous. This doesn't inspire confidence if
you find you've bought a turkey. I figured I'd get better after sales
support if I bought from a dealer.

From talking to them on the phone they sounded like a couple of wheeler
dealers in a small office in London, that said, the car and deal might
have been a good one, so I can't put them down too much as I never
    bought from them.

Got shafted by the Nissan dealer instead :-(

    Paul.
