A wall of silence? Perhaps no one wants to be the one to say, welcome to 1.7TD
club!

Re .-1: It is not at all clear to me that the TD is the way to go. On cost
alone, it is the one that is nearest to my current cost. However, there is a
very big difference in performance (based on the book figures, not a test drive,
yet) between the TD and my Renault 21.

I suspect that I shall actually get a 2.0i GLS, and take the hit on cost, but I
haven't finally decided yet.

2390.5Lease costs - rule of thumb ...QUICHE::PITT"Where there are no people, the vision perishes..."Mon Apr 03 1995 15:5319
Whilst there is clearly no alternative to getting a firm quote from car fleet
for a car you are ordering, I have discovered that you can make a reasonably
inspired guess at the lease costs at present, without getting a quote.

I should indicate, that the figures that I'm going to quote appear to work for
the size car that I'm looking at - they might vary for others. It's also likely
that if you go off the mainstream manufacturers, they could easily vary greatly.

If you look at the lease costs for Cavaliers, they are all around 23% of the
list price - the ones I considered vary between 21% and 24%. Looking at other
alternatives, from Rover, Renault and VW, the lease costs are around 30% of the
list price - they varied between 29% and 32%.

I would therefore suggest that (at least in that price/size bracket) you can
"guestimate" a lease cost by taking 30% of the list price.

Anyone want to check these figures out on other sizes of car?

Check out 2290.12 - the cars are smaller, but probably cost more due
    to higher insurance ratings.

Presumably a Clio Williams is about group 14/15?

I'm sure that the Clio Williams is quoted as group 17 in What Car.
