2387.0. "Views on Astra Sport 1.8I 16V ?" by BLKPUD::WARNESG (Mae hen iaith y Cymry mor fyw ag erioed) Thu Mar 09 1995 14:11

    Tried most of the other Astra-related notes without much success, so ..

    Does anyone have any opinions on the new Astra 1.8I 16V Sport ? I believe
    this replaces the GSi in the range (?)

    Any views welcomed.

2387.1BAHTAT::HILTONBeer...now there's a temporary solutionThu Mar 09 1995 14:434
    I *thought* it looked very plain, nothing to distinguish it from the
    low-end Astras.

    Seemed quite fast when I followed one in My R19 16v
2387.2Get a Yellow Peril *8-)FORTY2::WILKINSTesting is a desirable thing - like a DentistThu Mar 09 1995 16:4817
	Hi Grahame,

	I've just got one on the scheme..impressed so far, I also drove the demonstrator
	from Wadham Kenning.

	As reply -.1 states the looks are "underplayed" when compared to the
	old GSI but IMHO it looks a lot "cleaner".

	Comfortable and quick...very quick *8-)

	Good value on the scheme when compared to Cavalier SRI etc.

	Any specific questions ?

	Cheers,
	Kevin.

    Still, I can't comment.

2387.81.6 Sport, anyone ?CURRNT::PAYNE_AStupid ThingThu Mar 09 1995 20:288
    Does anybody have any views on the 1.6 16v Sport? Personally, I'm not
    sure about the steel wheels with the plastic-looking covers in the
    middle.

    I'm still waiting for Vauxhall Marketing to phone up and say they've
    got one for me to try.

    How does the GLS 1.6i compare to this? Is it quite quick too, or
    sluggish and heavy as some of the earlier models have been? I've
    seen the specs but would be interested to hear the views of people
    who have driven them.

	The Sport models have uprated front and rear anti-roll
	bars - the gas damped shocks are standard across the range.

	I haven't pushed it yet but the suspension and handling seem
	responsive - the ride is quite firm..fnarr..fnarr.

	Some comparisons (albeit from the manufacturers brochure)
	between 1.6i 16v GLS 3dr Hatch and 1.8i 16v Sport 3dr Hatch:

			GLS	Sport

	Max Power	100PS	115PS
	Max Speed	118mph	124mph
	0-60		10.5s	9.0s
	30-50(4th)	8.5	7.5

	Cheers,
	Kev.

I've had my 1.8i 16V Sports for a couple of months now and I am very impressed.

Reasonable space, comfortable ride, good extras, good price and pretty nippy.

Can't seriously slate it although it is developing a few little rattles already !!

Cheers

Barry

  Hi,

  Has anyone seen the 1996 model of the Astra Sport 1.8i 16v (3dr)?
  Are there any new features, apart from being available in Graphite?

  Cheers,

  Emer

	Hi,

	If Graphite = Diamond Black, that's no change from '95
	models it was also available on those.

	If Graphite is a new colour...ignore me *8-)

  Diamond Black is a Two-coat metallic colour, whereas
  Graphite is a Two-coat pearlescent colour (much nicer) :-)
