2308.0. "The last SU carb..." by FUTURS::JENKINS (Norfolk enchance) Tue Sep 06 1994 21:25

On Friday last week, SU carbs sent their last carb to Rover to be used
on a production car (Metro). SU, who now make fuel injection systems
will continue to make spares and replacements.

But carb based metro's are still being made so who is replacing SU ?
Why did they give up on a known contract ?

Why don't the base level metro's have FI like the 1.4's ?

I imagine that there will be quite a time delay between SU making
the last carb and Rover fitting it to a Metro.
Two other possible considerations as well.... Rover will soon be
announcing their 1995 model range - presumably without an SU carbed
Rover. Also, I passed a field the other day that had more unsold
Rovers (inc Metros) in it than Rover are likely to sell before
    Christmas!

2308.3Shoot the Carb, and not just SU's....FORTY2::HOWELLJust get to the point...Thu Sep 08 1994 15:258
I think the days of the carburretor are numbered anyway, what with
emmission regulations and catalytic converters etc etc....

Rover (and everybody else too I imagine) will be changing to fuel
    injection, even on small engines...

"it's the way to go" so I'm told !!!!!!!

Then again, I hope Weber don't stop making DCOE's.........

There will be an awful lot of motor sport people in real trouble with the demise
of carbs, one of the most tinkered with items on any car. All those mini drivers
out there with barrel loads of SU's under the bonnet....Weber are gonna have a
field day
