I have just been given a BMW 1800 (1964 or 1966) It has a few problems, notably a cracked cylinder head. I know nothing of this type of car - does anybody know where I can find both technical documentation and parts ? Paul

Thanks for the club address and the Haynes reference. I have ordered the Haynes Manual, and I will ring the club. Paul

Paul, Is the 1800 the four-dour body shape? I think these cars still had a lot of mechanical components in common with the later 1602/1802/2002, and would probably have the same four-cylinder engine, which has an alloy head that can be prone to problems. If so, then it is possible that the '02 specialists Jaymic in Norwich may be able to help with parts, or at least point you in the right direction. You can reach them on 0263 512883. I'm sure there are two BMW clubs, the Drivers' Club and the Car Club, one independent and one linked to BMW, but I don't recall which is which. I don't know which club the 'phone no. in .1 refers to, but I'll look up the other one for you this evening. If it's any use at all, I have a BMW factory workshop manual for my 2002 (expensive), which I could lend you if you wish; I think it covers the smaller engine capacities as well. Good luck with your project! Warren

The 1800 is indeed similar looking to the 02 shape, but has 4 doors and a huge boot. Thanks for the loan offer, I have ordered the Haynes Manual though. I'll see if Jaymic can help. Paul

The 'phone no. in .1 is for the BMW Drivers Club. There is also the BMW Car Club, of which the '02 Register is a part, which can be contacted at: PO Box 328 Andover Hampshire SP10 1YN Tel. 0264 337883 Warren

If the head is the same as the one fitted to the 2002, then I've got a practically bare one in my garage. If you want it you're welcome to it. I bought it when I had a 2002 Tii "just in case", but as I've long since sold said vehicle it's surplus to requirements. Contact me if you want it and I'll sort out getting it to you.
