2257.0. "Virtual Formula One?" by BLKPUD::ROWEM (Frank Gamballi's Trousers!) Wed Apr 27 1994 15:11

    This is a Car/Pc note. Moderator please feel free to move
    as you see fit.

    Are there any secret Microprose Formula One players out there
    with a 386dx33 or better, who would be interested in linking
    pc's?
    I have occasionally done this and it can be VERY competitive.
    Perhaps a Virtual Formula one club?

    Any takers?

    Matt.

Hi Matt,

Yeah, I'd be interested in doing this!

btw - do you use any of the auto features (brakes, gear change etc?)

Steve

    Auto features? ahh yes I remember them..

    No not for a while.
    I'm in Warrington, and modem linking was not my primary objective
    as it could run up a hell of a phone bill! however maybe so.
    I'll post a few sample qualifying times to give some indication
    of skill levels. I used to play on an Atari ST, and got used
    to thrashing the opposition, but now I've a PC and it runs much
    smoother and the computer teams are quite competitive.
    But when you link 2 together it becomes a whole new ball game!
    because you're trying harder you tend to make daft mistakes.

    Matt.
2257.3Auto feature? What's that?WOTVAX::GILLILANDPNot very Tuna-friendlyWed Apr 27 1994 18:276

    I hope you're not including me in that statement Rowe. Just wait till I
    get my PC, I'll even lend you one of my modems!

    Phil Gill.

    No Phil I was only refering to the computer types in all cases
    Honest luv.

Blimey they're a bit slow, aren't they?!

<just kidding>
Dan - P.S. I'd love to link up but i) no modem
				  ii) no phone plug near computer
				 iii) no money to pay for vast bills that would undoubtedly follow

    The software is in your local computer games shop and costs about 30
    quid. The connection is via serial ports.

    Phil Gill.
2257.9Get it Run it !BLKPUD::ROWEMFrank Gamballi's Trousers!Wed Jul 13 1994 19:5815
    Ahh I thought this note had died!
    The software is Microprose Formula One Grand Prix, as it's far from
    new it's budget these days, I got my copy from WH Smiths for 17 quid
    re .6 there is a good note on this topic on 501CLB::GAMES note 2086
    also 2369 is for Indy Car Racing, this is a similar type of game, but
    newer and better, though more difficult as there is no steering help!
    The systems need to be Pc's 386dx 33 or better to get decent frame rate
    and very old versions of F1GP didn't have modem/serial port linking.
    The game is sold for Atari St or Amiga, but no linking and
    8 frames/sec with all detail off.On a 486dx2-66 it will do 25 fps with
    all detail and track/grass texture on, and still only 50% cpu usage!
    There are pointers to various editors for F1gp on ::games for those
    interested.

    Matt.
