2181.0. "New wiper blades" by RAYON::CONNORR (Rising Suns Pils drinking champion 1992) Fri Nov 26 1993 11:38

I'm currently running a Metallic Blue Audi Coupe and am unimpressed
with the wiperblades. They don't do justice to the cars looks. I am
thinking of changing to an Illuminous orange pair from Halfords. Has
anyone had any experience of these? I am wondering if the fuel
consumption changes in anyway due to the increased drag co-efficient of
    these wiper blades.
As I am thinking of selling the car, I was also wondering if a set of
after-market wheeltrims would increase the cars value.
    Has anyone got any comments.

There's a blue Skoda which drives around Basingstoke from time to
time. This has luminous pink wiper blades. I'll see if I
can track down the driver and give him your number.

I think the wheel trims that would really do your audi justice would be
plastic chrome spoke wheel trims (at halfords for about twenty quid )
while your there you could get some of those wonderful christmas bits

     1. a plug in twelve volt xmas tree for your rear window.

     2. some spray on snow for your windows (perhaps even lead windows)

     3. a jolly santa pine air freshener

     4. a compass, thermal blanket, twelve volt flask kettle ,snow chains

     5. a turbo and 4X4 sticker...

     enough is enough...

    Clayton,

I don't feel it necessary to put the 4x4 or turbo stickers on
the car as I already have a quattro badge on the back and one of those
bolt on twin exhaust pipes. This really makes the car stand out now.
I've also recently acquired one of those illuminous light strips for
    the back window.

2181.13PIECES::63543::claytonPlace holder for NOTESFri Nov 26 1993 15:2013
this conversation seems to be around car add on's..reminds me of when i was
young the was a chap at the end of my road he had a bedford ha (beagle i
think) anyway it had just about everything you could buy on it bright red
axle jacked up lit up at night. two cosmic mk4 alloy's on the back fur dash
chain stearing wheel and all sorts of stickers on the back windows, remember
the ones triangle flags saying : i've been to hayling: etc it was finished in
global flake purple (very large metal flake paint job) the reason i remember
it so much was because the starter motor used to whine every morning at about
6:00 am and my brother used to threaten to torch the motor boy did he curse
on and on this motor used to go.. till it started..

                            more later

Those neon underbody lighting kits, where can I get them from?
I've just been out at dinnertime and got myself one of those
Knightrider flashing lights thingies for the bonnet. It looks good,
easy to install. I'll let you know how I get on after the weekend with
    it.
I didn't realize how much fun you could have when doing up a car. Last
weekend I decided to replace the carpeting. Ever so easy, and as I had
a piece left over I covered the rear shelf as well. I think the lime
green colour really sets the interior off a treat.
Any other suggestions on how I can improve things?

ps clayton - what's a safty cap ?

is is referring to some weak and feeble human being, or is it a device to
stop sexually transmittable diseases - bit like an Allegro Estate me thinks !
2181.19safty capPIECES::63543::claytonPlace holder for NOTESFri Nov 26 1993 18:4711
I used to have some old car magazines from the forty's and fifty's which
contained adverts from that time, now the felt safty cap was
basically a flat cap made of felt that sat firm on your head the advert said
in the event of a crash this safty cap will help prevent damage to ones head
the was a picture of a guy wearing a flat cap, handle bar mustache and a pipe
with a strapping big scarf on... if he was around today i think he would own
a allegro estate....don't you also i think his wife would have one of those
hat's that looks like a bowl of fruit...

Have driven a Calibra actually Terry, thought it handled really well. Although
I hear the 16v doesn't handle as well as the 8v due to tyre width or something
like that.

But on reflection I know you are a Golf man and I have to agree the Golf does
handle incrediby well.

Yes, I have! I didn't realise they were still being made

I must say the thought that there may be herds of people driving around with
new nodding dogs put me off for a few seconds, but I've wanted one for so long.
At least now I may be able to get a spotty one (well 3 - one for Beastly, one

I had this happen on an old style Astra, and all it was was that the
nut which holds the wiper arm onto the shaft had loosened. I just
tightened it up again, and away we went.

You get at the nut by lifting the cover at the bottom of the arm.

I agree with Nigel. However, DONT overtighten this nut.

I sheared one off once. It's quite annoying to have to remove the whole
lot to put a new wiper stud in place.
