2116.0. "Did you say "Reliant Kitten" ??" by AYOU18::RDODD () Fri Jul 02 1993 19:40

    Well, I guess that I'm wondering if anybody out there has a "Reliant
    Kitten" ??

    My neighbour has just acquired a "plastic car" for his wife. It's
    almost a classic, "S" registration no less, and it seems to have been
    well looked after by it's former owner. One owner since new. It is
    showing some signs of distress...it is getting on a bit after all.

    I was wondering if it would make a good project car ?? Any info would
    be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    RR

    My dad swears by his, every time it gets bumped and injured, he just
    rebuilds it...and it never rusts. He has had his since brand new and
    it's a T reg (I remember, I was so embarrased the day he picked it up!)

    I think he is on his 3rd engine but this little "resin rocket" still
    just keeps on going...

2116.2Does this have the 850 engine?VANTEN::MITCHELLD"Management is opaque"Thu Jul 08 1993 17:292
if so then there are some tuning wheezes to be obtained from from
the 750MC
2116.3It's gotta HUGE 850AYOU63::RDODDFri Jul 09 1993 19:2118

    Well, it's got the 850 engine, that I do know. It's also got a new
    owner, me.......thought that it would be a very different kinda project
    car.

    Needs some tender loving care...apart from anything else it needs
    cleaned out (don't think the insides ever been cleaned in the last two
    years) ?? There's a couple of minor inconveniences......like the clutch
    seems to be incredibly harsh in first....lotta judder, and then again,
    sometimes it jumps out of 1st/2nd. Also there's a knocking sound coming
    from the front offside.

    BUT, cost price was less than the cost of a new exhaust for my Isuzu,
    it's got a years MOT, you can pick it up with one hand, AND, it might
    be fun to work on (assuming that I can find the bits) ??

    If you want to have a realy interesting project, then take a tape
    measure to a baby lotus elan. They have almost the same wheel base and
    driving position. I considered putting the kitten van body on top of
    the elan chasis and engine to make quite a quick car that the vandals
    would never think of joy ridding. You should find all the elan parts
    of the shelf apart from the diff, and soneone did a conversion using
    the sierra diff.

2116.6Kitten to Citation?PEKING::GERRYTFri Jul 16 1993 17:0113
    My brother had one in splendid beige/mink colour!
    One of its selling points (not too many) was that it could do 70mph in
    third!

    It was faster than a mini, and didn't rust....just crack!
    Fuel economy was also very good for its era (near 50mpg) which means
    its bound to be better than the Isuzu (which is what my brother drives
    now!)

    You aren't my brother are you???
