1972.0. "Help needed with a X-mas puzzle" by GVA05::MOOSDIJK (Beer-o-crat) Mon Dec 28 1992 17:08

    Although currently living in Switzerland, I am still subscribing to a
    Dutch Car Magazine. This Magazine every year has a Christmas puzzle.
    Although most of the time relatively tough to solve I NEARLY managed to
    do so this year. Except.... one piece. Here is where I will need some
    help.

    The puzzle itself is very simple. They provide the 'type' names of
    certain cars, and the only thing you have to do is to find the correct
    'brand' name with it. For that brand name you will get the number of
    characters it needs and by positioning the brandnames in a certain way
    you will get a (Dutch) sentence.

    An EXAMPLE  _________________
                | | | | | |N|S|X|   should be HONDA NSX
                -----------------
    As I did solve all but 1 of the lines, I do know what the sentence must
    be. However in order to send in the solution I will need to know 1. The
    sentence and 2. Each individual brandname.

    The one lin-item I am looking for is:

    | | |L| | | | | |W|a|s|p|

    I do know that the 3rd character is an 'L' because I do have the
    sentence. What I need however is a Car brand with 8 characters, 3rd
    being an 'L' that has a car type called 'Wasp'.

    The car brands that came to my mind sofar were Delahaye, Delorean and
    Wolseley, but for none of them I can find a car called 'Wasp'. Anyone
    out there any idea ??

    Regards,

1972.1Old Wolseley ?CMOTEC::JASPERTue Dec 29 1992 16:285
    ...There was certainly a Wolseley called a Wolseley Hornet (c. 1965)...

    Maybe there is a more classic (older !) Wolseley.

    Could wasp be the Dutch translation???

1972.3Wasp = WespGVA05::MOOSDIJKBeer-o-cratTue Dec 29 1992 17:4514
    I do have a car-encyclopedia at home and checked with the Wolseley but
    they did not mention the Wasp in there. BTW Wasp is not a Dutch word.
    In Dutch this would be a Wesp (close enough to it, but still..).

    Of course the books I have may not be a 100% complete. But I would
    prefer to hear from someone who KNOWS that there was a 'brandname'
    Wasp.

    But, still thamks for your help sofar and please keep your eyes and
    ears open for info on the Wasp.

    Cheers,

    	The car in the opening credits for "The Pink Panther" was known
    	as The Wasp. I've no idea who built it though.

Maybe that was a take off on the show "Green Hornet"??
