Can anybody tell me if ABS is an option on the new Golf Gti 16V.

    And.

    When are deliveries expected.

    Cheers

Dunno about the ABS, but PHH/Hertz will be quoting prices in about
a week. VW said they were expecting delivery in "early" 1993.

My understanding is that ABS is standard fitment, as is traction control, on
the 16v (same as the VR6), although the suspension setting are different to
the VR6 due to the target market and the weight of the engine.

I reckon this should be a lovely car. Does anyone know if its the same
engine as in the last Golf. The 16v was always criticised for a lack of
low down power and heavy oil consumption. Is this true?
Has anyone seen any info on the new Golf...what comes as standard on
    the 16v?

    Cheers, Graham.

VAG held up the release of the new Golf 16v because they couldn't
get enough power from the unit. They are aiming at 150bhp/140 torque
if the article I read is to be believed.

The old Gti had a 1.8 - the new one is a 2.0, so no, the engine is not
the same unit as the old one.

I phoned VAG last week as I've two quotes rejected from car fleet, they
told me the 16v GTi will not be released until early spring 93, and
wont even comment on the price of the car.

    re: - a couple

How do you know PHH/Hertz will be quoting on it soon ???

They have the first test drive in A&M this week and all that says about
release dates is early 93' and expected to be around 16K.

Yes, I read the article too. From what I could see (not very good
photos ) it looks to a very attractive car, and still quite subtle.

Only one gripe though, VW still insist on making the main beam control
"click on/ click off" rather than push forward for main beam ( as in
Ford etc) sounds a little thing I know but it aint half annoying!

I still want one though !

    Graham.

I actually prefer this method! The lever is always in the same place,
and he action is always the same. As opposed to reaching further
forward and pulling back or pushing away. I'm glad that both Citroen
and Rover (the 200/400 anyway) do it this way.

There you go, proves as allways that you can't please everyone ALL the
    time :-)

1935.11Campaign for easy flashing !WELCLU::DREWNot another marzipan mercenary !Thu Nov 12 1992 01:0712

My real objection to this is that when you have your headlights on,
and intend to flash your mainbeam ( as a warning etc) you end up
switching main beam on, then you have to quickly switch them off
again...sounds petty I know, but in my last VW (Transporter van) it
    	drove me mental !

    	Am I alone ?

Cetainly the Citroen AX does this, but it's a cheaper switch. However
the Rover switch has a distinct half way position that just pulls in
the main beam relay, WITHOUT latching the switch.

So half pull to flash, full pull to switch! I seem to remember the BX
    does this too.

In Vauxhall's (Cavalier and Calibra), at least, the flash is towards
you and switch to main beam is push away. Works well.

Don't be so heavy handed - it is possible to flash WITHOUT switching
    main beam on
